Some of laws in sights have 'very clear anti-Semitic background,' anti-Semitism watchdog says

Germany is moving to rid itself of a cluster of laws introduced by the Nazis, still lingering on its books 75 years after World War II, AFP reported Friday.

In an interview with the agency, Felix Klein, Berlin's point man for fighting anti-Semitism, said there were at least 29 German legal or regulatory texts that still use wording introduced when Hitler was in power, including some that have "a very clear anti-Semitic background", Klein told AFP.

Bolstered by support from several parties as well as Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, Klein now wants to wipe the slate clean -- preferably before the end of the current term in September.

Germany has already reformed several Nazi-era laws over the years, including the infamous Paragraph 175 that criminalized sex between men and was repealed in 1994. Read more at i24
