Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh returned to Beirut for the first time in 27 years, a spokesperson for the terror group said on Tuesday.

His visit was suddenly canceled last night before being put back on the agenda this morning.

While a number of Palestinian factions are based in Beirut, Haniyeh will participate by video conference in a meeting scheduled with Palestinian leaders, and greeted by the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

The Hamas leader’s last visit to Lebanon dates back to 1993 after Israel exiled 415 Islamist cadres and soldiers from the West Bank and Gaza Strip to Lebanon.
