The OU Kosher certification has announced that Pringles potato crisp snacks are now dairy or 'dairy equipment.'

The potato crisps, produced by Kellogg's Snacks in Battle Creek, MI, are popular among Kosher consumers due to its widespread availability, in both Kosher and non-Kosher stores and supermarkets.

The company is changing many of their OU Pareve potato crisps to OU Dairy, the OU announced, "which may or may not be a result of a product reformulation."

"If a Pringles product is marked OU-D and ingredients state ‘whey’ or ‘milk’, it is real dairy," they advised.

For those individuals who are stringent about the equipment used to manufacture the food items, the OU advised that even if "the ingredients don’t state ‘whey’ or ‘milk’, it is being made on dairy equipment."

Those that have the plain OU designation are still Pareve.

"Consumers should always be careful to check for the kosher designation," the OU advised.
