MD Beer Alert 5779: As in previous years, a number of brands of beer will have an issue with
Chometz She’avar Alav HaPesach until some time around Shavuos. The full information is

Market Maven Meat Department meat and chicken are only Kosher for Passover when so stated on
the label. The department is NOT Kosher for Passover year round.
Shmitta wine - Any 2015 wine from Israel is from Shmitta. Due to lack of sales in Eretz Yisroel, a
large stock of this wine has been sent to the U.S. within the past few weeks and is now being sold
in many wine stores. There are a number of concerns with the way this wine has been handled,
resulting in problems in consuming this wine. Each person should consult their rav for guidance or
to choose a diff erent vintage of wine.
Carrots and many citrus fruits are arriving in the U.S. from Eretz Yisroel and would be subject to the
separation of Terumos and Maasros. See https://www.star-k.org/articles/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/
KCSmall_Terumos.pdf for instructions.
NOTE: The produce departments of Market Maven and Seven Mile Market are overseen by
STAR-K and, when relevant, Terumos and Maasros have already been separated per signs posted in
the store.
Clarification: Pesach guides, including Star-K/Rabbi Bess Lists, indicate that NatureMade
Melatonin is chometz-free. Please note that this refers only to NatureMade Melatonin Swallow
Tablets. Naturemade also makes a product called, “VitaMelts Sleep” made with melatonin. The
VitaMelts Sleep contains chometz and should not be used on Pesach.
