At least seven arrested as protests, scuffles break out at rally for Trump, against coronavirus restrictions

Hundreds of vehicles drove from Coney Island to the Trump Tower in Manhattan, then headed to Brooklyn to hold a demonstration.

Videos circulating on social media capture protests and scuffles around the event, with objects lobbed at the cars.

Scuffles also broke out in a number of cases, including in Times Square, with reports of at least seven arrests made by the New York Police Department. The police did not specify whether those taken to custody were with the caravan or the counter-protesters.

The demonstration was held less than two weeks ahead of the November 3 presidential election, with recent polls revealing that some 70 percent of US Jews were likely supporting Democratic nominee Joe Biden -- but support for Trump was overwhelming among the religious US Jewry.

Besides a message of support for Trump, the New York event was also designed as a protest against the anti-coronavirus restrictions slapped on a number of areas, including the predominantly-Jewish ones. Read more at i24
