We are understandably shaken and saddened about the break-in and vandalism that occurred at Nessah Synagogue in the early morning hours on December 14 We are grateful to the Beverly Hills Police Department for their detailed investigative work, and are confident that they will do everything possible to apprehend the individual responsible for this crime.

Though it is not clear that hate was the motivation for this crime, the destruction of property, especially religious artifacts, makes it especially painful. As a community, we must remain vigilant, united, and strong. Whether this crime was committed by a hateful bigot, or a common thug who seized an opportunity to trespass and vandalize, we will not be intimated. Rather, we are propelled to unite as a community, to unite with fellow Jews, and to stand strong with good people of all faiths.

The Board of Directors is actively working with law enforcement and security personnel to further enhance and ensure the safety and security of our congregants and staff within Nessah Synagogue. These security measures will be implemented, along with upgraded security procedures.

Standing strong and united is more important than ever. Nessah Synagogue opened yesterday afternoon and all classes and activities resumed as usual. Now more than ever we encourage our members and friends to join us next Shabbat for solidarity, unity and to shine light over darkness.
