South Florida

In response to Hurricane Irma, that greatly affected our community and in light of the immediate short term need of so many South Florida residents who simply cannot obtain the necessary funds, the Rabbanim of North Miami Beach, as a whole, have established the South Florida Hurricane Irma Emergency Relief Fund, referred to below as “The Fund”.

Purpose:

The Fund will serve two main purposes: 1) To provide funds for food for families in need for the upcoming Yomim Tovim; and 2) To provide short term construction funding to those members of the community whose homes were damaged and are in need of immediate repair.

It goes without saying that the need for money to pay for food over the next three weeks is at one of the highest points of the year. There are a number of contributing factors that magnify this need: People have been out of work since the storm, families have had to bear numerous unexpected crisis related expenses, and families who had already filled freezers with food have seen that food spoil as we approach our fifth day without power.

The need for immediate funding for construction repairs is critical. Although most homes were not completely destroyed, many homes suffered severe roof and window damage. If not fixed immediately, especially during the rainy season in South Florida, water will continue to invade these homes and the resulting damage will be far greater than the present cost of repair.
