Jerusaelm, Israel - Feb. 6, 2023 - The number of Tu Bishvat celebrations has grown over recent the years, with a wide variety of adaptations on the themes of the fruits of Eretz Yisrael and the new year of trees. On Sunday Erev Tu BiShvat, OU Israel hosted a special luncheon at Psagot Winery. The success of this initiative should make this premier program an annual event.

The capacity crowd filled the Psagot main dining hall to honor outgoing OU Israel President Ziv Sand after his six years of service and leadership and his recovery from a serious medical episode. In addition, the event highlighted the 22nd anniversay of the Zula program for troubled Israeli youth, which has been a resounding success. Members of the Zula staff were invited, and they not only enjoyed the delicious meal but listened to a video and speeches highlighting their professionalism, at all hours of the night, and their oncern for young people out on the streets with nowhere else to go, who find a safe haven with the OU's Zula.

Rabbi Avi Berman, Executive Director of OU Israel, acted as master of ceremonies for the program. Honored among a list of dignitaries called to speak was Rabbi Sholom Gold, Dean of the Avram Silver Jerusalem College for Adults.

Orthodox Union leaders from the US who attended included the new President of the Orthodox Union Mitchel R. Arder, and Rabbi Joshua Joseph, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officier.

New OU Israel president Stuart Hershkowitz, Vice President Prof. Meni Koslowsky, Director of Programs OU Israel Center Rabbi Sam Shor, Rabbinic Administrator Rabbi Ezra Friedman, Torah Tidbits' Editor Rabbi Aaron Goldscheider, and VAAD members mingled with Sand family members, supporters, and guests under the surprisingly warm February midday sun in the Psagot patio area before the seated meal began.

Former MKs, including Shuli Moalem-Refaeli, YESHA leaders, community and OU rabbis attended, along with Zula professionals and hundreds of supporters.

The centerpieces for the holiday meal were an attractive display of dried fruits on the Tu Bishvat theme. Psagot is known for its fine wines, and two bottles were on each of the tables for guests to enjoy with their meal.
