Baltimore, Md - May 27, 2022 - Please be advised that applications for the MD Match (529 State Contribution Program) are due on Tuesday May 31st.

Even if you have received the Match in a previous year, you must still re-apply for it in order to receive it again.

If you have an existing account, you can access the application by clicking here.

Several notable changes to eligibility for the Match were made during the last two legislative sessions. Here are a few important points to remember:

  • The lifetime cap on one account holder was set at $9,000 from all of their beneficiaries – NOT per beneficiary. (but that account holder can still receive the state tax deduction on their 529 investments).
  • Only account holders above 18 years old are eligible to receive the Match for their beneficiaries.
  • Income eligibility for the Match is based on their adjusted gross income (not taxable net income as in previous years).
  • Account holders who do not file a tax return, must fill out a notarized affidavit that confirms their income status & eligibility and mail it in by May 31.
  • New and existing account holders who do file a tax return, must have done so by July 15.
  • In one year, a beneficiary can only get a max of two Match contributions.
