A 14-year-old London schoolgirl was forced to flee to safety after a man carrying a pair of handcuffs invited her to go with him while she was waiting at a bus stop in High Road, Tottenham, adjacent to the heavily chareidi neighborhood of Stamford Hill.

The girl ran home and alerted her parents who called the local Shomrim organization as well as police. Shomrim arrived at the scene within two minutes and located a man carrying handcuffs in the back pocket of his jeans. Police later arrived and arrested the 50-year-old man on suspicion of attempted kidnap as well as possession of an offensive weapon and failure to appear in court.

The man was detained in custody and enquiries are ongoing. The girl was reportedly “very upset but physically unharmed.” The Shomrim organization said that they are supporting the girl and her family.
