Baltimore, MD - Apr. 25, 2021 - On behalf of The Baltimore City Health Department and The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, we are asking for your participation in a survey to help us better understand the statistics of COVID-19 cases and current attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccines within Baltimore's Orthodox Jewish Community. This survey is also endorsed by Baltimore City Councilman Isaac "Yitzy" Schleifer, and the Vaad HaRabbonim of Baltimore requests that everyone respond to the survey.

Your input, whether you were or plan to be vaccinated, are unsure about vaccination, or have no plans of being vaccinated will be very helpful as we assess the informational and vaccine facilitation needs of the community. The quick survey should take 3-5 minutes to complete, is anonymous and HIPAA secure, and you can be entered into a raffle for a $100 Visa Gift Card if you provide one piece of contact information.

The survey link will be open from Sunday, 4/25 through Thursday, 5/6. Please complete the survey as soon as possible.

The Baltimore City Health Department has partnered with The Associated Jewish Federation of Baltimore in the VALUE Baltimore vaccine outreach program. Laura Kurcfeld is the VALUE Community Lead for the Orthodox Jewish community.

Overall, a large majority of the local Orthodox Jewish community has embraced the COVID-19 vaccine efforts, and that is great news as we work toward getting our community back to normal living. However, we need to acknowledge that there are people either waiting for one reason or another, or not planning on getting the vaccine, and their information is important to take into account and respond to as well.

In order to maximize the effectiveness of the survey results we are asking for all Orthodox Jewish community adults to complete the survey whether they were or plan to be vaccinated, are unsure about vaccination, or have no plans of being vaccinated. All local shul Rabbis will be sending out messages with the survey link as well, encouraging you to respond and participate. If you know of relevant people without internet access or that would need help completing the survey, please take a few extra minutes to complete and submit surveys online with them as well.  Anyone needing assistance with completing the survey can call Laura Kurcfeld at 667-262-2702 to do it over the phone; you will not need to provide your name if you do not want to.

The VALUE Baltimore initiative is an ambitious effort to reach out to specifically identified communities that may have hesitation about the COVID vaccine, experience challenges with getting clear education about the vaccines, and navigating the vaccination process as well. VALUE is an acronym for Vaccine Acceptance and Access Lives in Unity, Education and Engagement. Partners include the Baltimore City Health Department, IVAC (International Vaccine Access Center, through Johns Hopkins University), Morgan State University, and MICA (Maryland Institute College of the Arts). Strategic efforts have been created to address the specific needs of this community, and more information will be brought to the public in the near future.

Thank you very much for your support of and participation in distributing this survey and your concern for the overall health of our community. If you have questions regarding this effort, please do not hesitate to reach out to Laura Kurcfeld at 667-262-2702.
