One Thursday towards the beginning of February, a mother and her seven-year-old daughter, were crossing the street at a crosswalk in Nahariya, when they were struck by a passing vehicle that was driving too quickly to stop.  Witnesses urgently called emergency services for help. United Hatzalah dispatch instantly located nearby volunteer EMTs and notified them about the emergency.

Doron Almog was at work when he received the alert. He quickly raced to the location of the accident on his ambucycle as safely as possible. He found the two victims lying on the road, with numerous injuries. The mother sustained a serious head wound and leg fractures, while the little girl had suffered blunt force trauma and likely fractures to her arms and legs.

Doron quickly began treatment; he affixed neck braces, stabilized limbs, and staunched bleeding wounds. The United Hatzalah EMT was joined by other first responders from the organization and the team continued on-scene treatment until ambulances arrived, at which point, the victims were secured to backboards and transferred inside for transport to the Galilee Medical Center for further care and treatment.

About a week later, Doron heard that both the mother and daughter received extensive treatment in the hospital and are on the road to recovery. Miraculously, the mother had no indication of neurological damage despite her severe head injury.

“I was ecstatic when I got the news that both the mother and daughter were doing well. We were all worried for them as the whole incident was incredibly tragic. Here a mother and daughter were just crossing the street when in one instant, their life changed. I am glad that I was able to be there to help in order to minimize the pain and anguish for them both.”
