Former president's fiery speech at 'Stop the Steal' rally preceded some of his supporters storming the Capitol

The US House of Representatives will move forward with its push to impeach former President Donald Trump when it will formally charge him with inciting insurrection in an incendiary speech to his followers earlier this month.

Nine House Democrats who will serve as prosecutors will proceed through the building where hundreds of Trump supporters fought with police, leaving five dead, at about 7 p.m. on Monday (0000 GMT), carrying the article of impeachment to the Senate where Trump will face trial, according to Reuters.

The procession will be almost identical to Trump's first impeachment trial last January, which centered around claims that he abused the power of his office and obstructed Congress in relation to his call pressing Ukraine to investigate then-former vice president, now US President Joe Biden.

This will mark two historic firsts: the first time that a president has been impeached twice, and the second historic aspect - which may negate the first - is that Trump will be the first former president to face prosecution having left office - meaning that the House will be attempting to impeach a private citizen.
