'American Unity' ​will be the theme of the 46th president's inauguration

Immediately after his swearing-in on January 20, US President Joe Biden will partake in several activities with predecessors Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush in an appeal for unity among the American people.

"America United" ​​will be the message of the 46th president's inauguration, Biden’s inaugural committee said in a statement, adding that the theme underscores the "beginning of a new national journey that restores the soul of America, brings the country together, and creates a path to a brighter future.”

The announcement comes just days after hundreds of Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill, leaving five people dead and dozens injured in a shocking event that has unnerved the country. 

Every four years, hundreds of thousands of spectators flock to the US capital to attend the event, but access will be limited this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser urged Americans on Monday not to attend the ceremony out of health safety concerns, and to follow it online or on television. Read more at i24
