"Everyone feared that recognition of Jerusalem would lead to an explosion, but it led to peace instead of violence," Friedman said at the event, as cited by The Times of Israel

"This meeting is a unique and rare event," Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee head MK Zvi Hauser said in the opening of his speech.

Hauser thanked the ambassador for his years of service in Israel, in particular for his "extraordinary contribution towards strengthening ties between the United States and the State of Israel."
