Baltimore Mayor-elect Brandon Scott spoke with C4 and Bryan Nehman about his thoughts, plans and more regarding his new position in the city. This interview comes as Baltimore has reached its 300th homicide for the year.

"We have to work to make sure that we are starting to finally attack this issue both in the immediate, and long term. Not either or," Scott said when talking about crime. "We have to build a sense of accountability for everyone, and starts with me coming in as the mayor."

Scott also addressed terms and statistics when it comes to violent crimes in Baltimore.

“You hear this term be thrown out that we have to 'target the most violent offenders,' 'we have to go after the right people.' And you’re right, but that’s means you actually have to go after them. You can’t say that we’re targeting the most violent offenders, and when you look and go through gun arrests, they only represent about 15 or 20%. That means you’re not going after the right people.” 

Scott also states that  things needed to help the people and communities in Baltimore is trust and accountability, especially between police officers and Baltimore citizens. 

"I as the leader have to be out there personally letting people know, and showing people that things are going to be different because I operate in a different way. I take these things very personally. We also have to accelerate the things we have to do through decent decree, through leadership. We have to communicate that in a much better way. Both to our police officers and to our citizens." Read more at WBAL
