Federal authorities charged eight people Wednesday for taking part in a Chinese government program called “Operation Fox Hunt” — by scheming to force people who are living in the US to return to China.

Five defendants — including an American private investigator — were busted in New York, New Jersey and California, officials said. The three others are believed to be in China.

They all face prosecution in Brooklyn federal court.

The victims of Operation Fox Hunt include both American citizens and legal residents — and one is an unidentified New Jersey man, officials said.
