Anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard is due to give a press conference Saturday

Police took nine people, including a minor, into custody on Saturday following the grisly murder of a history teacher in the north-western suburbs of Paris the previous day, according to local police.  

The suspects are reportedly family members of the assailant, who was killed by police after allegedly beheading the educator for showing caricatures of prophet Muhammad in class, French media reported.

According to AP, French President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a “Islamist terrorist attack” and urged the nation to stand united against extremism. 

“One of our compatriots was murdered today because he taught ... the freedom of expression, the freedom to believe or not believe,” Macron said while visiting the school where the teacher worked. 

“We must stand all together as citizens,” he added. Read more at i24
