Even though the general election is 35 days out, Marylanders began casting ballots Monday using ballot drop boxes now available in some locations in every jurisdiction.

Oregon Ridge is one of Baltimore County's early voting sites, and as of Monday, home to one of the 10 ballot drop boxes delivered Monday.

There are 10 drop boxes being installed in Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel County will have 18 in place by Tuesday.

Wildly popular during the primary election, and the drop boxes are back for November in even greater numbers.

The delivery of ballot drop boxes got underway Monday ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election.

"We're pretty much dropping them and moving onto the next site," said Jeff Stevens, with the Baltimore County Board of Elections.

The installations started statewide Monday and whether it was Baltimore County, Baltimore City or Anne Arundel County, every drop box is triple locked, double checked, safety sealed and then ready for use.

"Open for business. In fact, we were over at the Reisterstown Senior Center and we had no sooner packed the equipment up and somebody drove up and dropped the ballot in the box," Stevens said.

"We're trying to get the drop boxes for the early voting sites and the high schools set up first," said David Garreis, deputy director of the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections.

Voters who 11 News encountered in a couple jurisdictions Monday had arrived with their completed ballots before the drop boxes arrived.

"I think we're the first -- my husband and I, he's in the car -- to put our ballots in," said Cheryl Joel, a Baltimore County voter.
