Cabinet Minister Shay slams gov't decision, says made against experts' recommendation

Israel’s coronavirus czar Prof. Ronni Gamzu said that the strident lockdown measures to commence Friday at 2 pm (Israel Summer Time) will come at a “tremendous” economic cost.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gamzu reiterated his opposition to the comprehensive lockdown.

“I recommended the Cabinet to tighten the instructions and not shutter the state, but it decided otherwise and I respect that,” he stipulated, according to outlet N12.

The government decided early Thursday morning, following a meeting that lasted all night, to impose harsh restrictions on the Israeli public as COVID-19 infections continue to surge in screening tests conducted daily by health authorities. Read more at i24
