Former Baltimore Police Commissioner Darryl de Sousa is out of prison Friday.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons sent a statement to 11 News, saying: "Darryl De Sousa is in community custody overseen by the Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) Baltimore Residential Reentry Management (RRM) Office ... Inmates in community custody are those housed in the community under the supervision of the regional RRM office. The projected date of his release from the custody of the BOP is March 11, 2020."

De Sousa was sentenced in March 2019 to 10 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, after pleading guilty in December 2018 to failing to file federal tax returns over three years.

The judge in March ordered De Sousa to perform 100 hours of community service and to pay restitution in the full amount of the government's loss, which was $67,587.72. De Sousa's attorney said De Sousa cashed out his retirement to pay off what he owed.
