Baltimore, MD – March 30, 2020 – We’ve all heard what the adults around the globe have been saying – and watched the YouTube parodies they have been singing – about the Coronavirus. I thought it was about time that we check in on the kids in our community to hear their take on this whirlwind of unfolding events, and to see how they are managing. I began by asking 14-year-old Beth Tfiloh freshman, Michael Bitman.
“I really feel that it is kind of cool that we can learn from home,” shared Michael. “I was reading that a lot of people in public school are not learning because the public schools cannot necessarily expect their students to have Wi-Fi. Therefore, they cannot connect to some of the programs that...

An all-star cast of singers has come together virtually to cover the MBD classic “Someday” for a good cause. The music video, shot entirely on cellphones, was produced in support of Chai Lifeline’s Isolated Together emergency response campaign to help children with life-threatening illnesses and their families who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The video features Avraham Fried, Mordechai Shapiro, Benny Friedman, Gad Elbaz, Levy Falkowitz, Zusha, and a host of artists from across the Jewish world. Dini Storch, who composed the original song, is herself a Chai Lifeline mother (of Hudis a”h).

The following are remarks delivered last week by the Sanzer Rebbe in Netanya, Israel. It’s important to contemplate that just as this virus cannot be seen by our eyes and yet it has the power to transform the whole world, so too the Almighty is not seen but runs the whole world. While you might say that with the right instruments one can see the virus, you should know that if you have the right “instruments” you can also “see” the Almighty. Those instruments can be accessed – as is mentioned in many works and throughout chassidic literature – through deep connection to Torah….It is forbidden to say about anything – certainly about something so major –that it is just a random event. We must attempt to ponder: Why did Hashem bring th...
Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) Tuesday called for a congressional inquiry into the World Health Organization (WHO) over its response to the coronavirus, accusing the group of “helping Communist China cover up” the full extent of the virus’s spread.
Scott, a vocal China critic, has voiced concerns about the relationship between the WHO and Beijing in the past and said the health organization “failed” to get adequate information from China out to the public.
“The mission of the WHO is to get public health information to the world so every country can make the best decisions to keep their citizens safe. When it comes to Coronavirus, the WHO failed. They need to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a...

Maryland State Police released details Tuesday on how they'll enforce Gov. Larry Hogan's order directing most Marylanders to stay at home.
State troopers won't pull over drivers just to determine if their travel is essential. However, during a crash investigation or traffic stop, if a trooper determines someone was engaged in non-essential travel, they can take enforcement action.
Police said drivers don't need documentation to support their purpose of travel, but it may help to have it handy.
Troopers will continue to take action on non-essential businesses that remain open or groups of more than 10 people gathering in violation of Hogan's orders.
Under the order, Marylanders may still get groceries, get prescriptions, seek medical attention, get cle...
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned Americans to brace for a “rough two-week period” ahead as the White House released new projections that there could be 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the U.S. from the coronavirus pandemic even if current social distancing guidelines are maintained.
Public health officials stressed that the number could be less if people change their behavior.
“We really believe we can do a lot better than that,” said Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force. That would require all Americans to take seriously their role in preventing the spread of disease, she said.
Trump called American efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus “a matter of life and death” and urged ...
As the head of Misaskim, I am on the front lines in dealing with the multitude of tragedies in recent days. Misaskim has been inundated with calls and emergencies. With an unprecedented amount of niftarim in such a short period of time – and dozens of young, innocent yesomim added to our list – it has been a very tough week at Misaskim.
Misaskim’s mission is to alleviate tragedies with compassion – which is ever more important at a time when the traditional sense of shivah is not fulfilled. In addition to ensuring kavod hameis, each niftar has a family that he or she leaves behind, who need comforting in such trying times.
Recently, our mission went from difficult to impossible. The coronavirus – along with the self-quarant...
