The Baltimore County Council is set to vote Tuesday on a bill proposed by County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. that would require further security for gun shops and gun shows in the area.

The Secure All Firearms Effectively Act, deemed the SAFE Act, would require gun shops to install an alarm system that is registered with the county, a video system, installation of bollards or other types of physical barriers, installation of security gates or screens over windows and doors, require guns to be locked in a secure room during off-hours or utilize a live security guard and gun shows would need to have a live security guard when the show is not open.

The proposed legislation would also implement a new license for all firearm stores and gun shows in the county. Gun shows and shops would not be allowed to operate without the license.

Last week, around 50 people attended a public hearing on the bill in which some gun shop owners said the legislation could put some of them out of business. Read more at WBAL
