Baltimore police seek public comment on a new staffing plan.

WBAL-TV 11 reports the draft of the plan was posted online in accordance with the federal consent decree. The plan would institute new staffing levels at all nine patrol districts and the use of a civilian stance.

“When completed, the staffing plan will give us a much better idea than we have ever had of how best to utilize our most important resource -- our people," Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said. "In doing so, it will make us a significantly more effective and efficient police department, which will be good for everyone: individual officers, the department as a whole and the city."

This is the first of two public comment periods. The department will consider feedback before sending its plan to the federal judge overseeing the consent decree.

Feedback will be accepted through Jan. 13, 2020.
