Baltimore, MD - May 6, 2019 - At the Baltimore City Council meeting held on May 6, 2019, the council elected Councilman Brandon Scott to serve as their next President. Scott will be replacing Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young  who, as part of the government’s succession plan, has been elevated to the office of Mayor after the resignation of Mayor Pugh.

Mr. Scott a Democrat, born in the Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore City has been a member of the City Council since 2011 representing the 2nd District. Additionally, he ran for lieutenant governor in 2018. During his tenure with the City Council, Scott chaired the influential Public Safety Committee and has been a regular staple on local media advocating for enhanced safety and security.
 
5th District Councilman Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer who was one of the Council members who advocated and voted for Mr. Scott’s advancement to Council President, stated, “ I have known Brandon for almost 10 years and have become close colleagues and friends. As a fellow native of Park Heights, he understands the challenges our City is facing. He is the type of strong leadership our City craves and deserves. Brandon stands for transparency and creative solutions. It is truly time for a new beginning for Baltimore City.
