Baltimore, MD - May 24, 2018 —  Friday, May 25th marks the beginning of Baltimore City’s summer youth curfew. Through August 26th, youth under the age of 14 need to be indoors from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. while youth ages 14 – 16 have an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.  Youth found violating the curfew will be transported home by the Baltimore Police Department.  Outreach staff with the Community Action Partnership (CAP) program of the Mayor’s Office of Human Services will then follow up in person with these youth and their families to conduct an assessment, offer supportive services and provide referrals to positive activities and community resources.  Unlike last summer, the City will not utilize physical curfew centers. This new model will conserve public resources while focusing on providing services and support directly to youth and families who may be in need.

Youth who are unable to provide their home address or the name of a parent or guardian will be transported to the Rita Church Community Center (East) or Lillian Jones Recreation Center (West) until a parent or guardian is contacted. If a parent or guardian cannot be identified, then youth will be referred to the Baltimore City Department of Social Services (DSS). Children under the age of 13 will automatically be referred to DSS. Baltimore City School Police will be present at both centers to provide positive youth support and engagement.

As part of the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI), youth can participate in recreational activities at nine Baltimore City Recreation & Parks centers (C.C. Jackson, Crispus Attucks, Greenmount, James McHenry, Lillian Jones, Oliver, Rita Church, Robert C. Marshall, and Samuel F.B. Morse). The centers will operate from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and from 5 p.m. to midnight on Saturdays.

The summer youth curfew program is an inter-agency partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Baltimore City Public Schools, School Police, Baltimore Police Department, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks, and the Mayor's Office of Human Services.
