Authorities said there has been a shooting at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, Md., but it was not immediately clear whether anyone had been injured. 

Cpl. Julie Yingling, a spokeswoman for the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, said at 8:15 a.m. that officials “have a shooting at Great Mills High School.”

“It is fluid,” she said of the situation.

On its website, St. Mary’s County Public Schools wrote, “There has been a shooting at Great Mills High School.” They also said “the school is on lockdown and the event is contained.”

When asked if anyone was hurt or if anyone was in custody, Yingling said, “we have no idea at this point.”

Officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’s Hyattsville offices were en route to the school, according to a message on Twitter.

Ronda Neville who lives in Sebastian, Fla., said just after 9 a.m. that she was waiting to hear from her niece — Calli — who is in the 11th grade at Great Mills. So far she hasn’t heard from her or the girl’s father, who is her brother-in-law. Read more at Washington Post
