Immigrants have provided a continuous source of vitality and ingenuity to this country since its founding. Steve Roberts, author of From Every End of This Earth, a study of 13 modern immigrant families, will tell that story. He brings it to life through his family history, his book and recent stories he’s written for Bethesda Magazine. But part of the American legacy is also xenophobia and nativism, an impulse that breaks out periodically in our history and is part of our national life today. Steve will also discuss the special responsibility of Jews to welcome strangers that has its roots in Exodus and the story of Moses’ exile.
