A diplomatic source said on Thursday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is insistent on finalizing all the details of the hostage deal before bringing it to the vote of the Security Cabinet and the Cabinet. "Netanyahu strongly refused Hamas's demand to change the deployment of troops in on the Philadelphi Corridor and thus he is standing firmly against Hamas's other demands today, which deviate from the understandings that were reached during the negotiations. It seems that this insistence bears fruit, but until the matters are completely finalized, Prime Minister Netanyahu will not convene the Cabinet and government.' Earlier in the evening, Shas Party Chairman Aryeh Deri announced that Israel and Hamas have overcome the obstacles on the path to implementing the hos...
Miriam Adelson, billionaire donor and longstanding supporter of Donald Trump, was crucial in persuading the president-elect to push Hamas to accept a hostage agreement, Israeli journalist Ben Caspit (Maariv) reported. Adelson, who at times commanded extraordinary influence over US-Israel relations, reportedly lobbied Trump to take bold action, utilizing her close relationship with the president-elect. According to Caspit, Adelson’s activism was decisive in persuading Trump to issue what in December was a grave public warning to Hamas, demanding that it release the hostages it had taken. Trump had recently taken to social media, declaring, “The hostages are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will… Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has b...

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, currently on a diplomatic visit to Italy, confirmed the development after meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio. The ministers clarified that legal advice received by the Italian government affirms that Netanyahu and Galant are entitled to immunity under international law while visiting Italy....

One of the oldest and most foundational teachings of Pirkei Avot asserts: "Derech Eretz Kadmah L’Torah" — the "ways of the land" precede Torah and miztvot. This does not necessarily assign greater importance to the "ways of the land" over Torah or mitzvot. Instead, it emphasizes that, developmentally, the "ways of the land" must come first. Before excelling in Torah study and deepening our commitment to religion, we must first give attention to Derech Eretz. But what exactly are the "ways of the land" that this proverb refers to as preceding Torah? In the 19th century, Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch, responding to the challenges of Jewish emancipation in Germany, developed an ideology called "Torah im Derech Eretz." He borrowed this term to advocate for the integration of Tora...

Jerusalem, Israel - Jan. 15, 2025 - Information on the release of Israeli hostages, held for over 446 days in Gaza, has taken over the minds and hearts of Am Yisrael.  The announced release of only a few hostages at a time is a further torture for their families. How many of the 98 hostages are alive is also unknown.  In Yerushalayim, protests are pressuring for the release - NOW!  But also protests have been held to support the families of fallen Israeli soldiers. Those who do not want the government to give in to the extortion by Hamas using these humans as blackmail to release thousands of convicted terrorists. They do not wish the loss of the 840 IDF killed to be in vain. As we await what comes next, BJL walked to the Old City to see the Western Wall Herita...

Annapolis, MD - Jan.5, 2025 - Legislators are considering new bills to help ease the burden on homeowners and renters. It comes after a key takeaway from talks at the State House in Annapolis on Tuesday was that Maryland has a housing problem, and more needs to be done to make housing more affordable. Lawmakers and advocates pushed for bills to protect Maryland renters in February 2024. Experts said the legislation has helped but doesn’t go far enough. A panel of experts told a House committee that it is critical that Maryland keeps up with the housing demand in order to grow the state economy. Experts warn there is not enough of this going on statewide. Authorities estimate 150,000 more housing and apartment units are needed to support job growth. According...

The FDA is revoking the authorization for the use of FD&C Red No. 3 as a matter of law, based on the Delaney Clause of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). The FDA is amending its color additive regulations to no longer allow for the use of FD&C Red No. 3 in food and ingested drugs in response to a 2022 color additive petition. The petition requested the agency review whether the Delaney Clause applied and cited, among other data and information, two studies that showed cancer in laboratory male rats exposed to high levels of FD&C Red No. 3 due to a rat specific hormonal mechanism. The way that FD&C Red No. 3 causes cancer in male rats does not occur in humans. Relevant exposure levels to FD&C Red No. 3 for humans are ty...
