Agudath Israel celebrates the favorable vote earlier today of The Educational Choice for Children Act of 2024 (ECCA). Following a model already operating successfully in more than twenty states, H.R. 9462 will provide $5 billion in scholarships to cover expenses facing public and private school children. It does this by allowing a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit for taxpayers who contribute to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGO). These SGOs would then provide scholarships for a range of educational expenses, including private school tuition.

With the passing of Rav Aharon Schechter (1929-2023) on 8/24/23, I would like to share what impact Yeshiva Chaim Berlin had on our lives, as 2 of the Ner Yisroel Roshei HaYeshiva learned there.
I was zoche to meet the Rosh HaYeshiva (R’ Schechter) 3 times (and twice even asked him for a bracha.) When I saw him in 2018, I remember the zerizus he went into davening albeit using a walker. I was also zoche to meet the current Rosh HaYeshiva, Shlomo Halioua, (1959-), pronounced: Haliwa in 2006 and mentioned that it was so nice that such a prestigious and large Yeshiva embraces a practicing sefardi in a mechanech position and Baruch Hashem Ner Yisroel does as well.

Baltimore City, MD — Sept. 11, 2024 - While the pandemic itself feels far behind us, a federal COVID funding deadline is now right around the corner. Leaving Baltimore City with millions left to spend in a short amount of time.
In 2021, Baltimore City was handed $641 million from the American Rescue Plan (ARPA). But the one-time gift from the federal government came with two deadlines. All of the money must be obligated by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of 2026. Whatever remains after those deadlines pass will be returned to the U.S. Department of Treasury.

A recall on apple juice due to potentially harmful levels of arsenic has expanded to include products at several retailers nationwide.
On Monday, Florida-based Refresco Beverages Inc. issued a voluntary recall of 133,500 cases of apple juice after the products were found to contain inorganic arsenic slightly above U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommended levels.
The expanded recall came just weeks after Walmart pulled more than 9,500 cases of apple juice from its shelves after it tested positive for elevated arsenic levels.
The newest recall lists various brands including Market Basket, Nice!, Wellsley Farms, Urban Meadow, Nature's Nectar, Weis and Clover Valley apple juice.

Almost an hour into the presidential debate on Tuesday night, debate moderators David Muir and Lindsey Davis asked Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump how they would break through the stalemate and reach a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

The names of two soldiers who were killed Tuesday night in a helicopter crash have been cleared for publication, the IDF said Wednesday afternoon.
Chief Master Sergeant (res.) Daniel Alloush, aged 37, from Tel Aviv-Yafo, and Chief Master Sergeant (res.) Tom Ish-Shalom, aged 38, from Nes Harim both fought in the Special Tactics Rescue Unit 669 and fell during combat in the southern Gaza Strip.

On September 11th America awoke with a jolt. With the collapse of the towers, we discovered that our country’s enemies were not resentful people sitting in a corner of the globe but hateful conquerors who despised us and had come to take America down.
That tragedy triggered America’s rebirth. Flags appeared everywhere, huge flags. Those who hated our country made us realize how much we love it.
The American spirit was revived and celebrated. The men and women of the armed forces, firefighters, EMT’s, and police reminded us that while we had enemies, we also had heroes. With God’s help, they enabled us to prevail. Love and pride for our country and the heroism of its founders and protectors. That is the legacy of 9-11. Not security lines and metal detectors.
