A Tisha b'Av Kinah for October 7th by Rabbi Moshe Hauer "Tisha b’Av is a day when we mourn the range of tragedies that have marked Jewish history, beginning with the destruction of both batei mikdash. Many of these calamities from throughout the ages are represented in the book of Tisha b’Av kinos that we read in our shuls. While we are generally extremely cautious about adding contemporary prayers, the kinos are an exception, such that most shuls include a kina commemorating the Holocaust. In this spirit, there have been efforts to write kinos for this Tisha b’Av that reflect on the profound tragedy of October 7 and its aftermath. While all of us will have these events on our mind during Tisha b’Av, some shuls and individuals will seek to express those thought...

US House Speaker Mike Johnson called on the Biden Administration to act against Iran after multiple American servicemen were injured in a rocket attack on a military base in Iraq.
"After repeated attacks on American troops in the region, and while Israel is under threat from Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, the U.S. cannot hesitate to defend our servicemembers and our ally," Johnson said.
"Any attack by Iran against Israel or American interests would be unjustified and met with decisive force. America and our allies and partners in the region should work together to strongly counter Iran and its terror proxies to send a clear message against these malign activities.

Washington, D.C. - Aug. 6, 2024 - Vice President Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) to be her running mate as she heads toward a November faceoff against Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar.
Walz, 60, emerged as a dark horse contender for the No. 2 slot as chatter over other high-profile names, in particular Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D), dominated the early portion of the veepstakes.
But the Minnesota governor saw his profile rise considerably over the last week, especially after a viral cable news interview in which he derided some Republicans as “weird” — a line of attack later adopted by national Democrats.
Walz was also seen by many as a safer choice for Harris thanks to his libe...

Israel has managed to completely destroy only a small minority of Hamas's battalions in the Gaza Strip, claims a report by the American Enterprise Institute’s Critical Threats Project, the Institute for the Study of War and CNN .
According to the report, which is based on Israeli and Hamas military statements, footage from the ground, and interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, only three out of the 24 battalions were considered combat-ineffective.
The report added that 13 battalions have only been degraded, and are only able to conduct sporadic, and largely unsuccessful guerrilla-style attacks. The unwinding of some of Wall Street’s most popular trades intensified Monday, sending Japanese stocks to their worst day since the 1987 market crash and walloping U.S. technology shares.
U.S. stock indexes opened sharply lower, tracing declines in international markets, before recovering somewhat after a survey of purchasing managers showed the services sector expanded last month at a slightly higher rate than expected.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq led the way, falling nearly 4% in afternoon trading. Every industry segment in the S&P 500 declined, pushing the broad index more than 3% lower. All 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined and the blue-chip index shed more than 1000 points.
The Russell 2000 index of small stocks, resurgent in recent weeks, lost mo...
