Washington, D.C. - Aug. 6, 2024 - Vice President Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) to be her running mate as she heads toward a November faceoff against Donald Trump, according to two sources familiar.
Walz, 60, emerged as a dark horse contender for the No. 2 slot as chatter over other high-profile names, in particular Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (D), dominated the early portion of the veepstakes.
But the Minnesota governor saw his profile rise considerably over the last week, especially after a viral cable news interview in which he derided some Republicans as “weird” — a line of attack later adopted by national Democrats.
Walz was also seen by many as a safer choice for Harris thanks to his libe...

President Isaac Herzog: “Today I visited the Kerem Shalom Crossing on the Gaza border, the main artery for supplies of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and an area Hamas terrorists attacked on October 7th and have continued to attack.“We saw materials en route to build one of 3 new field hospitals, in addition to the 11 already established all across the Gaza Strip - while Hamas used the previous hospitals as a base for terror, and to hold captive our hostages.“The new medical facilities are part of a huge effort in conjunction with international NGOs and the Israeli authorities to bring this aid to the civilians in Gaza. It all depends now on the ability of international organizations to deliver the aid in Gaza itself, and of course to prevent looting by Hamas ter...

Israel has managed to completely destroy only a small minority of Hamas's battalions in the Gaza Strip, claims a report by the American Enterprise Institute’s Critical Threats Project, the Institute for the Study of War and CNN .
According to the report, which is based on Israeli and Hamas military statements, footage from the ground, and interviews with experts and eyewitnesses, only three out of the 24 battalions were considered combat-ineffective.
The report added that 13 battalions have only been degraded, and are only able to conduct sporadic, and largely unsuccessful guerrilla-style attacks. At the same time, eight of them are still fully combat-effective with the capability to carry out missions against Israeli soldiers on the ground in Gaza.
According to the...

The unwinding of some of Wall Street’s most popular trades intensified Monday, sending Japanese stocks to their worst day since the 1987 market crash and walloping U.S. technology shares.
U.S. stock indexes opened sharply lower, tracing declines in international markets, before recovering somewhat after a survey of purchasing managers showed the services sector expanded last month at a slightly higher rate than expected.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq led the way, falling nearly 4% in afternoon trading. Every industry segment in the S&P 500 declined, pushing the broad index more than 3% lower. All 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined and the blue-chip index shed more than 1000 points.
The Russell 2000 index of small stocks, resurgent in recent weeks, lost mo...

The IDF located railroad tracks in the smuggling tunnels along the Philadelphi Corridor area, demonstrating the extent of the smuggling operation that has existed underneath the border between Egypt and Gaza, Doron Kadosh reported on Galai Tzahal (IDF Radio).
According to the report, the railroad tracks were used to drag a kind of wagon-carriage along their length. In this manner a large amount of weapons were smuggled into the Strip.
Sources in the IDF said that the work of destroying the tunnels along the axis has not yet been completed, and that there are tunnels in which research and scans are still being carried out.
It was also reported that there are areas on the Philadelphia axis where the drilling has not yet been completed - and therefore the IDF's assessment is that...

The United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) on Monday published the results of its investigation into reports that 19 UNRWA employees participated in the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023.
The OIOS investigation found that it had obtained no evidence regarding one of the UNRWA employees, insufficient evidence regarding nine of the employees, enough evidence to say that nine UNRWA employees "may" have participated in the massacre.
The employment of the nine employees has been terminated "in the interest of the agency."
UNRWA, the United Nations agency dedicated to the descendants of the Arab refugees from Israel's War of Independence, has frequently been criticized for its connections to the Hamas terrorist organization and the extreme antisemitism of many of its...

Shabbat With Survivors of the Nova Festival
“Why isn’t this the top news story?” Meirav Berger asked me on Shabbat morning. Meirav is the mother of soldier and hostage, Agam Berger. We were attending a special Shabbat program on behalf of the hostages and watching survivors of the Nova festival dancing, with tears in their eyes, around a Sefer Torah.
“I will definitely write about it,” I told her, “and I’m sure it’s today’s headline in Shamayim!
Words are inadequate to describe this powerful experience, as more than 100 survivors of the Nova festival came to spend a Shabbat in Jerusalem. After getting to meet them over Shabbat, we said that they deserve to be referred to not just as survivors but as the Heroes of Nova; si...

“Five years… Do you even know that this big day is approaching?” she asked.
Hamas has claimed that the children are no longer alive, but the Israel Defense Forces says it has not found any evidence to support this.

A stormy and wet week is in store for the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region as the remnants of what was Hurricane Debby — downgraded Monday morning to a tropical storm — bring the potential for heavy downpours and flooding, forecasters warn.
According to the National Weather Service, an approaching cold front will cross the region early Wednesday, bringing rains that will continue off and on through Saturday.
"Tropical Storm Debby is forecast to move inland over South Carolina on Thursday and track slowly northeastward across eastern North Carolina and Virginia later this week. As tropical moisture increases, expect an uptick in showers and thunderstorms each day along with the threat of heavy rainfall," the NWS said in its daily summary. "Flooding caused by ...
