It’s post-Purim. I’m tired. We all are. There’s a war. There are soldiers—so many young ones being so brave for our people. There are our precious hostages we are desperately waiting for. Life right now is incongruous, and yet we try to live our lives as best and as normally as we can, including teaching preschool. I am a preschool morah, which means I make yom tov twice, once in my classroom and then at home, and yes, in that order. This morning, when I slowly pulled up to school, talking to my mom on our regular AM call, she informed me of the bridge collapse that happened earlier on. I had no idea as I was in a rush to get to work and did not check the news. With barely a minute to breathe after Purim and all that prep, we’re onto the next big project in p...
Workers recovered a truck from the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in the Patapsco River, but at least one vehicle remains hanging from metal debris, according to the Associated Press. The outlet cited a law enforcement official who had knowledge of a Homeland Security memo detailing the recovery.  Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on Wednesday praised divers who have spent hours in frigid water.  “They are down there in darkness where they can literally see about a foot in front of them,” he said. “They are trying to navigate mangled metal and they’re also in a place it is now presumed that people have lost their lives, so the work of these first responders, the work of these divers, I cannot stress enough how remarkable these individuals are.&rdqu...

Renowned U.S. attorney and Harvard Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz told i24NEWS on Tuesday, speaking on the state of relations between Israel and the United States during the war against Hamas in Gaza. “Situation with the United States is actually much worse than its been projected on Israeli TV and others,” Dershowitz began. “For the first time since 1948, Israel is no longer a bipartisan issue.” “It’s become an issue of a partisan nature,” the close confidante of presidents and prime ministers said.  “Many leaders in the Democratic party, starting with the Vice President [Kamala Harris] and down to the Majority leader of the Senate [Chuck Schumer], and other senators and the Squad have turned the Democrats against Israe...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Wednesday, 27 March 2024), at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem, met with US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and thanked him for visiting Jerusalem and for his unwavering support for the State of Israel, especially at this time. Prime Minister Netanyahu: "I thought the US decision in the Security Council was a very, very bad move. The worst part about it was that it encouraged Hamas to take a hard line and to believe that international pressure will prevent Israel from freeing the hostages and destroying Hamas. My decision not to send the delegation to Washington in the wake of that resolution was a message to Hamas: Don't bet on this pressure, it's not going to work. I hope they got the message."
We have a tremendous capacity for resilience to endure difficulties when we believe they are providing purpose to our lives The response to my most recent Mishpacha column (“Not in Hashem’s Name,” Issue 991) has been nothing short of a tidal wave. The central issue, conceiving of a loving Hashem, clearly strikes people right where they live. I heard responses like, “If only I had been raised to really experience Hashem this way, my life would be entirely different. It would have saved me decades of therapy.” I also heard, “I am still struggling to unlearn the harsh notion of a wagging finger from On High.” My email was flooded, people stopped me in the street, and I was invited out of town to lecture on this very subject. I am truly ...

Baltimore, MD - Mar. 27, 2024 - Hundreds of thousands of jobs are in jeopardy following the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Just last year the Port of Baltimore created around 15,300 direct jobs, with nearly 140,000 jobs overall linked to Port activities. Those jobs generated nearly $3.3 billion in personal wages and salaries, $2.6 billion in business revenue, and nearly $400 million in state and local tax revenue annually, according to the Maryland Port Administration. Overall the Port is the second busiest along the Mid-Atlantic, and first among the nation for autos and light truck volume, roll on/roll off farm and construction machinery, and imported gypsum. A safety probe into a Baltimore bridge collapse will include whether contaminated fuel played a role in a giant cargo ship losing power and crashing into the span, according to people familiar with the investigation. Safety investigators hadn’t boarded the ship, called the Dali, late Tuesday afternoon while it remained stuck at a pillar of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge. The vessel could remain in that location for weeks. Rescue crews spent much of Tuesday searching for potential survivors. The lights on the Dali began to flicker about an hour after the ship began its voyage early Tuesday. A harbor pilot and assistant reported power issues and a loss of propulsion before the crash, according to a Coast Guard briefing report viewed by The Wall Street Journal. &l...

Baltimore, MD - Mar. 26, 2024  - A ship that hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse overnight in Baltimore, lost power before the crash, authorities said. State officials said six people are missing, likely members of a work crew patching concrete on the highway portion. A representative of the company the construction workers are employed by told The Associated Press that they are presumed dead given the water’s depth and the length of time since the crash. Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, said the crew was working in the middle of the bridge when it came apart. CNN reported that one body has been pulled from the water. Baltimore City Council Member Phylicia Porter told CNN’s Boris Sanchez, “We ...
Baltimore, MD – Mar 26, 2024  - (U.S. SUN) Experts predict significant disruption to trade following the horror bridge collapse in Maryland near the Port of Baltimore, which has distribution hubs for major chains like Amazon and FedEx. Shipping has been suspended after a cargo vessel crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, with six people feared missing. Widespread disruption is anticipated as city officials work to clear debris and open shipping lanes. Tinglong Dai from Johns Hopkins University warns of potential seven months of disruption, particularly impacting the automobile and agricultural sectors. Despite the presence of major brands near the port, Baltimore's trade share on the East Coast is smaller compared to New York and New Jersey.Read more at U.S.SUN

Jerusalem, Israel - Mar 26, 2024 - Seeing Israeli industry thriving at full strength - that's the real victory.Regarding the negotiations for the release of the hostages. The reality is this - and the world and us must face it - everything begins and ends with Yahya Sinwar. He's the one who decided on the October massacre, he's been seeking to shed the blood of the innocent ever since, it is he who aims to escalate the regional situation, to desecrate Ramadan, to do everything to shatter coexistence in our country and in the whole region, to sow discord among us and around the world. He seeks terror, and the entire world and our entire region must know that the responsibility lies with him, and with him alone. It won't work. We won't allow it.At this moment, we mus...

Oakland, CA - Mar. 26, 2024  - RFK Jr. names Nicole Shanahan as his vice-presidential running mate. Nicole Shanahan is a wild card. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s expected vice presidential pick doesn’t have the kind of public persona typically associated with politicians. She’s not a frequent-flier on cable news, barely has a social media presence and is interested in some niche policy issues, like reproductive senescence, regenerative agriculture and gut biomes. But what Shanahan, 38, has is an abundance of wealth (which will come in handy as Kennedy mounts an expensive cross-country ballot access effort) and a powerful rags-to-riches story that many politicians would gleefully milk in advertisements. Raised on welfare in a single-p...
