Former President Donald Trump could find out Monday how New York state aims to collect over $457 million he owes in his civil business fraud case, even as he appeals the verdict that led to the gargantuan debt. After state Attorney General Letitia James won the judgment, she didn't seek to enforce it during a legal time-out for Trump to ask an appeals court for a reprieve from paying up. That period ends Monday, though James could decide to allow Trump more time. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has been trying to avoid having to post a bond for the entire sum in order to hold off collection while he appeals, but courts so far have said no. James, a Democrat, told ABC News last month that if Trump doesn't have the money to pay, she would seek to s...
An Israeli official said Sunday night that Israel has expressed agreement to release 700 terrorists jailed in Israel in exchange for the release of 40 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Analyst Barak Ravid reported that of the 700 terrorists, about 100 are serving life sentences for serious acts of terror which they carried out. Israel rejected a similar offer proposed by the Qatari brokers several weeks ago, but Hamas at the time was demanding a significantly higher number of terrorists serving life sentences in Israel. It was also reported that the Israeli agreement followed pressure by the head of the CIA in talks held in Qatar over the weekend. According to the official, Israel also agreed to discuss a US proposal to allow Gazans to return to northern Gaza after the hostages are relea...

Hundreds of residents of the Dolev area in the Binyamin region made their way this morning to the intersection where the shooting attack against an Israeli minibus took place on Friday to read the Book of Esther - one of the commandments of the holiday of Purim. During the attack, IDF Sergeant Major Ilay Garfinkel was killed in action and six more soldiers were injured. The incident lasted for nearly 5 hours, during which residents of the nearby towns were forbidden from driving on the roads and the town of Dolev was entirely cut off. The reading was planned by representatives of the nearby towns and Binyamin governor Israel Ganz. Ganz stated: “Now as then, our enemies are attempting to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and children (Esther ...
"Hard disagree," said Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania John Fetterman, reacting to the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken comment on Israel's potential isolation if the military advances with the Rafah operation plan. "Israel shouldn’t face isolation when Hamas terrorists are still present and hiding behind civilians," read Fetterman's post on X (formerly Twitter). He added that "Hamas owns this humanitarian catastrophe and must surrender, release the hostages NOW, or be eliminated." Senator Fetterman, labeled as a "political anomaly," emerged as a political warrior for the Jewish state, but has shown probably the most visible support for Israel since the October 7 attack. In November, he displayed posters of Hamas' hostages in front ...
Russian Jews are celebrating the Purim holiday in the shadow of the national day of mourning announced following an ISIS attack in Moscow which left over 130 dead. In light of the announcement, Russian Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar has ordered all of the country's Jewish communities not to hold musical events during the holiday. The call comes alongside an effort to increase holiday-related activities to ensure that all Jews - including those in hospitals and prisons - are able to hear Megillat Esther (the Scroll of Esther), send the traditional "mishloach manot" packages, and donate to the needy. Upon learning of the Moscow attack at the conclusion of Shabbat (Sabbath) on Saturday night, Rabbi Lazar gave a statement to Russian media, saying, "The news of the tragedy in Moscow ...
The Israeli delegation to Qatar has agreed to a compromise proposed by the US regarding the number of terrorists to be released in exchange for each hostage. The teams are now waiting on Hamas' response to the proposal. During the talks, it became clear that there were significant differences in the number of terrorists Hamas was demanding per hostage and the number of terrorists Israel was willing to release. However, when the US proposed a compromise, Israel responded positively. Sources involved in the negotiations have said that in the meantime, despite Israel's agreement to the compromise, there are still significant disagreements in the negotiations, and there has not yet been a breakthrough. Al Jazeerareported that Israel has agreed to allow 2,000 Gazans a day to ...

The dwindling staff at Baltimore's Police Department is dangerously low, according to national police experts. In Baltimore's Southern Police District on Tuesday, sources say at one point, there were as few as three police officers patrolling a district of more than 61,000 residents. At several points, radio transmissions called for volunteers to work overtime. The department is being forced to postpone training for some officers in order to keep them on the streets. "You are endangering the lives of police officers on duty and what that does is endanger the lives of the citizens," said Betsy Smith with the National Police Association. At a budget hearing last summer, the department's top brass told city council members that its attempting to hire 120 civilians to assis...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after a meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken that his forces will fight against Hamas in Rafah whether the U.S. supports them or not. Netanyahu emerged defiant from a Friday meeting with Blinken and his war cabinet in Israel, vowing to press on in the southern Gaza city where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering from the war. “I told him that I greatly appreciate the fact that for more than five months we have been standing together in the war against Hamas,” Netanyahu said in a video address. “I also said that we have no way to defeat Hamas without entering Rafah and eliminating the remnant of the battalions there. “I told him that I hope we would do this with US support...
The IDF has confirmed that an earlier publication according to which Ra’ad Sa’ad, Hamas' chief of operations, had been arrested, was mistaken. In the original publication, the IDF published pictures of terrorists who had been captured over the course of the operation in the Shifa Hospital. Due to a human error, several pictures were published of terrorists that have not yet been captured, but are presumed to be barricading themselves in the hospital. ‘’The IDF is continuing to work to arrest them. When the operation is finished, their identities will be published,’’ the IDF stated. ‘’The claim that this is psychological warfare only is baseless.’’ On Thursday, a picture of the hundreds of terrorists that had been arrested ...
The Maryland House voted Thursday for budget measures with tax and fee increases, part of a $1.3 billion revenue package for transportation and education. The vote paves the way for negotiations to begin next week with the Senate, which has not been receptive to the House’s tax, fee and toll proposals in the $63 billion budget plan for the next fiscal year. Del. David Moon, a Montgomery County Democrat, said the investments are needed to restore economic competitiveness to attract and keep businesses by improving transit and roads and expanding child care. “We’ve put our best foot forward to try not to put broad tax and fee increases on the table,” Moon, the House majority leader, said. “Everything is surgically aligned with a very specific reason.” ...
Delivery drivers are paid to deliver whatever items you purchase; they are not paid to deliver life lessons and advice. Recently, however, I had an encounter with a delivery driver who not only delivered the purchased goods, but he also delivered some hard-core inspiration and mussar. I noticed that the man was decked out in Baltimore Ravens football merch. He had a Ravens sweatshirt as well as a Ravens hat. Jokingly, I asked him if he’d ever wear a Pittsburgh Steelers hat instead of the one he was currently wearing? I just wanted to see his reaction, as I am well aware of the intense rivalry between the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. What started out as a joke to make conversation ended up turning into a powerful takeaway about personal conviction and confidence. He sa...
