Baltimore, MD - Feb. 27, 2024 - The first round of post-pandemic property assessments has Baltimore City residents bracing for higher tax bills.
Maryland tax officials are reporting a 23% overall increase in property values since the last assessment period in 2021. It’s the largest increase recorded in a decade, and it’s especially taxing on Baltimore City residents who already face the highest tax rates in the state.
At 2.248%, city residents pay twice the price of those in surrounding counties. The tax rate is 0.9779% in Howard County, 0.98% in Anne Arundel County, and 1.1% in Baltimore County.
For first-time home buyer, Syeda Jaffery, she was shocked when she received her new assessment in the mail.
“How am I going to afford it?” she questioned.

“Ever since October 7th, it felt like I was gasping for air,” a student from NYU told me during my lecture to a contingent of students that arrived here from the United States.“The last several months on campus have been one huge anti-Semitic nightmare,” he continued. “But now I feel that I can breathe again. We came here to contribute and to help, and each one of us had collected a lot of money that we donated to grieving families and to evacuees in hotels — but we also gained a lot from our visit. We received an identity, a sense of belongingness and meaning. I will never forget Shabbat in Jerusalem. I will never forget our visit to the rehabilitation department in Tel HaShomer and to the farmers in the south. There is no spirit like this anywhere else...

US President Joe Biden claimed that the right-wing makeup of Israel's current government is costing the Jewish State international legitimacy.
In an interview on NBC's “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last night (Monday), Biden said, "Israel has had the overwhelming support of the vast majority of nations. If it keeps this up with this incredibly conservative government they have, and [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben-Gvir and others… they’re going to lose support from around the world, and that is not in Israel’s interest."
The US President further implied that Israel's future depends on its acquiescence to his administration's efforts to quickly create a Palestinian state in the aftermath of the Hamas massacre of October 7.

In Shmos 34:1 Hashem tells Moshe to cut out two new tablets similar to the first ones and, “I will write on these tablets “asher shibarta” (that you broke.)” The gemara in Shabbos 87a says from the above posuk we see that Hashem was happy that Moshe broke the luchos. Moshe used a kal vachomer to explain. We know that the Torah forbade a ben nechar from eating the korban Pesach. If this is so for one mitzvah; kal vachomer it is for all of the Torah. All the Yidden became meshumadim with the eigel so of course they don’t deserve the luchos. Hashem agreed with him and sa...
