Two days before the Treasury Department estimated it would run out of money to pay the nation’s debts, President Biden signed into law today a bill that suspends the debt ceiling, cuts federal spending and avoids a government default as part of a deal that ended months of partisan wrangling. In an Oval Office address on Friday night, Biden said that in addition to avoiding the dire financial consequences of a default, the measure would maintain gains from the wide-ranging agenda he had pushed through during his first two years in office. And it bolstered the argument that is expected to be at the heart of his pitch for a second term: that he is a seasoned, competent leader who is able to deliver results in a polarized nation. “Passing this budget agreement was critical. Three Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed in two separate incidents on the Israel-Egypt border on Friday night, reports Arutz-7. The first incident occurred when an Egyptian police officer killed two IDF soldiers, Lia Bin-Nun and Uri Yitzhak Iluz, hours after an attempt to smuggle 1.5 million NIS worth of drugs was thwarted near Mount Harif on the border. In the second incident, a third IDF soldier, Ohad Dahan, was killed during a shootout with the same Egyptian officer who was also killed during the exchange. Bin-Nun, a 19-year-old from Rishon Lezion, and Iluz, from the northern city of Tzfat, were both from the Bardelas Battalion. Baltimore, MD - June 3, 2023  - Baltimore's leading prosecutor, Ivan Bates, plans to introduce a new citation docket to address quality of life concerns in the city, according to FOX45. This would cover offenses like dirt bike charges, loitering, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana for adults 18 and over. This approach contrasts sharply with Bates' predecessor, Marilyn Mosby, who ceased prosecuting what she deemed low-level crimes in 2021. The plan has faced criticism, particularly on social media, with concerns it might disproportionally affect young black men. Bates defended the initiative, stating that law enforcement will first warn individuals before issuing a citation. He also highlighted that offenders could complete community service and be c...

Rabbi Aaron Brafman was the much-beloved and revered menahel of Yeshiva of Far Rockaway. He was also a respected author and a dedicated askan. But more: He was a man who loved every Jew, who saw potential where others saw failure. In the words of a talmid, he was a man “who lived and breathed Klal Yisrael; whose days were filled with Torah and maasim tovim … and most of all, who epitomized the term ‘rebbi.’”  In the first interview, the author of Rabbi Brafman’s biography, Rabbi Shimon Finkelman, gives us a glimpse into the life of this extraordinary man.

This week Rav Taragin begins a new series that addresses issues of Personal Growth. The pieces will iy”H relate to the goals Judaism sets for us and how we can achieve them.  Not Necessarily Good Man is created last, as the climax of creation. The Torah tells us that Hashem saw what he created before man’s arrival as “good.” Everything was put in place in preparation for man’s arrival in the world Hashem created for him.[1]  Surprisingly, though, Hashem does not describe man as good.[2] Rav Yosef Albo[3] attributes this to a basic difference between man and all other creations. While other creatures and creations were created as objectively good — ready to function properly automatically, man’s status depends upon his own choices and ...
