Sales of new U.S. single-family homes jumped to a 13-month high in April, boosted by a persistent shortage of previously owned houses on the market, though sales for the prior month were not as strong as previously thought.
New home sales increased 4.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 683,000 units last month, the highest reading since March 2022, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday. March's sales pace was revised lower to 656,000 units from the previously reported 683,000. The government revised the sales, inventory and months' supply data going back to January 2018.
New home sales are counted at the signing of a contract, making them a leading indicator of the housing market. They, however, can be volatile on a month-to-month basis.

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s last legal challenge of her loss in the state’s 2022 governor’s race has been dismissed.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson ruled that Lake did not prove that Maricopa County did not verify signatures on mail-in ballots as law requires. Lake, a Republican, refused to concede after Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) was declared the winner in their race by about 17,000 votes and launched multiple legal challenges that have already been mostly dismissed.
The Arizona Supreme Court had revived one challenge Lake made to the mail-in ballots in Maricopa — the largest county in the state, making up more than 60 percent of its voters.
During a three-day trial last week, Lake&rs...

In Meseches Nida 30b it says a child in not born until he swears that he will keep the Torah. He will be a Tzaddik not a Rasha. The question arises why do we make the child swear a person already swore at mattan Torah on Shavuos that he will keep the Torah and therefore the Shvua one swears before he is born is not chal as he is mushba ve’omed me’har Sinai.
The Maharsha in Nedarim8a explains that despite a shvua is not chal on another shvua nevertheless he still swears to be mezarez the person to keep the shvua of shavuos. As we find a person can make a Shvua to be mekayem a mitzva in order to be mezarez himself.
The Sefer Emek Yehoshua vol 1 pg 7 and in Sefer Ohr Hoagada vol 3 both say that a neder is chal on the object and has no shaychis to the person making a ...

The report, released Tuesday, calls attention to growing concerns about the effects of social media use on children and adolescent's mental health. The advisory urges policymakers and the companies that make the social media platforms to share with parents the burden of managing children's and adolescents’ social media use.
Murthy calls youth mental health “the defining public health issue of our time,” urging policymakers to help ensure strong safety standards to help protect adolescents and teens from exposure to harmful content and exces...

Need some motivation not to skip leg day? Look no further. Researchers working with the European Society of Cardiology report that patients with especially strong legs are less likely to develop heart failure following a heart attack.
Myocardial infarction (a heart attack) is actually the most common cause of heart failure, with roughly six to nine percent of heart attack patients going on to develop a form of heart failure. Prior studies, meanwhile, reveal that having strong quadriceps has an association with a lower risk of death among patients with coronary artery disease.
For this latest project, study authors tested their hypothesis that leg strength does indeed have a link to a lower risk of heart failure post-acute myocardial infarction. This study encompassed 932 patients hospita...

More and more displays of hatred seem to be proliferating in the world. Not only between warring nations is this evident, but even within sovereign nations where political factions vying for control spew angry words of hatred. The rising of ugly expressions of those who despise Israel and Jews is becoming more prevalent and more blatant. Unfortunately, even within our very own ranks, intolerance of one another has led to spiteful and very caustic public demonstrations of animosity.
We are taught that the very location we received the Torah, הר סיני — Mount Sinai, is thus named because of the similarity of the word סיני and the term שׂנאה — hate, since it was from this moment and on that 'hate descended upon the nations of the world'.
Why did thi...

Leo Dee, who lost his wife and two of his daughters in a terror attack, has announced that he will sue CNN for comments claiming they were "killed in a shootout."
Speaking to i24NEWS, Dee said, "The fact that they said they were killed, and not brutally murdered by evil Palestinian terrorists funded by Iran is the typical CNN-ism, where they basically try like this comparison between the victim and the terrorist."
"Christiane Amanpour wrote me a brief email apologizing for any misunderstanding that might've been caused by the fact that she called it 'killing by a shootout,'" he added. "Of course, it's not worth the paper it's printed on, because when you make a statement in front of a hundred million people on prime time television and then yo...

New York City Mayor Eric Adams believes his city is unfairly carrying the weight of caring for asylum seekers who cross the U.S.-Mexico border, saying that the responsibility should fall on more cities throughout the U.S.
"When you look at the price tag, $30 million comes nowhere near what the city is paying for a national problem," he told "Face the Nation" on Sunday, referring to federal aid New York City is receiving for costs associated with shelters, food and health care for migrants. The city had asked for $350 million in federal aid.
"We've spent over a billion dollars," he added. "We're projected to spend close to $4.3 billion, if not more."
More than 70,000 migrants have come to New York City in recent months and 42,000 are still ...

Hillary Clinton weighed in on concerns surrounding President Biden's age, saying it's a legitimate issue and "people have every right to consider it."
Clinton made the under-the-radar comments on Saturday at the Financial Times Weekend Festival in Washington, D.C., when questioned about Biden stumbling at the G7 Summit in Japan.
"There was that heart-stopping moment when he almost fell over coming down the stairs a day or two ago," Financial Times editor Edward Luce said. "He didn't use a railing, and Jill wasn't there with him.
"Every time that happens, your heart is in your mouth because these things could be consequential. Is that a concern?" he asked.
