MK Avi Maoz, head of the Noam party, has expressed his staunch opposition to any plan to halt the judicial reform program. In a Knesset speech on Monday morning, he described how backing down would hand victory to the elites and turn voting into an utterly futile exercise. "What we are about to see here is the completion of the coup d'etat whose aim is to turn democratic rule in the State of Israel, based on government by elected officials, into a dictatorship of the elites, which in a cynical use of words designed to mislead and conceal calls what it is doing 'fundamentally democratic,'" he said. "It no longer matters who you vote for, because what prevails is only what serves the liberal-radical leftist agenda which opposes the Jewish and Zionist identity of the state. "...
Following a press conference given by Histadrut chairman Arnon Bar-David earlier on Monday, announcing a general strike in protest against the government's judicial reform program, all flights due to take off from Ben Gurion International Airport have been grounded until further notice. Israel Airport Authority Committee chairman Pinchas Idan announced the strike on behalf of the workers' union, adding that with regard to incoming flights, only those that are already making their way to Israel will be permitted to land. Meanwhile, passengers are continuing to check in without knowing whether they will actually be able to fly. The airport flight board is still displaying flights due to depart later on Thursday, but they could yet be canceled. A member of the workers' union...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to hold a second meeting Monday with Coalition leaders in a bid to win their support for a temporary delay in the judicial reform plan, after the first meeting reportedly devolved into a shouting match between National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and the prime minister. Netanyahu is now looking to secure support of his Coalition allies for a plan to push off the judicial over haul by several weeks. The prime minister had planned to give a public address Monday morning announcing that he is freezing the judicial overhaul, following the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud) and the mass demonstrations which subsequently broke out across the country Sunday night. But Netanyahu later decided to ho...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday night held consultations with members of the coalition, following the mass demonstrations that broke out throughout Israel against the judicial reform. While officials in the Likud Party said there is a possibility that Netanyahu may announce a pause of the legislation, Justice Minister Yariv Levin expressed his opposition to stopping the judicial reform. Shas and United Torah Judaism would reportedly support a pause, but Netanyahu has not yet made a final decision. The Otzma Yehudit Party said, "We are strengthening the hands of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Justice Minister Yariv Levin in not stopping the legislation. The right has no mandate to give up the judicial reform and surrender to violence. The majority of the peopl...
In Jerusalem, protestors gathered outside Netanyahu's residence broke through police barricades Thousands of Israelis in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Beersheba and other cities turned out to protest late Sunday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to sack his defense minister over opposition to a controversial judicial reform. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, a lawmaker from Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party, broke ranks on Saturday by publicly urging Netanyahu to suspend the legislation.  In Jerusalem, protesters gathered under the prime minister's residence on Gaza Street, breaking past barriers and barricades set up to prevent them from reaching his home. The major Ayalon traffic artery in Tel Aviv was blocked to traffic by a thousands-strong crowd, ...
Senior official speaking anonymously says attacks are being planned against Israel on the assumption of its weakness An unnamed senior Israeli defense official said on Sunday that Israel’s military deterrence is regarded by enemies as weakened by the ongoing rifts and crises over the government’s judicial overhaul. This comes as Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was fired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over controversial judicial reform, after a movement among Israeli reservists to threaten not to serve if the overhaul of Israel's Supreme Court is passed.  “Our enemies have come to see Israel as weak and limited in its deterrence in light of the weakening of international support,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told local ...
Israel's Consul General in New York, Asaf Zamir, announced on Sunday evening that he is resigning from his post, following the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
An Alabama school has introduced a bulletproof classroom to better protect students and teachers in the case of an active shooter emergency. Cullman City Schools’ West Elementary in Alabama has installed Rapid-Deploy Safe Room Systems in two of its classrooms according to Unilad. KT Security Solutions came up with the design in response to the deadly mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas last year. Nineteen students and two teachers died, while seventeen others were injured. The design incorporates a fold-out room that extends from a whiteboard featuring bulletproof walls. One door is locked from the inside and only unlocked with a key. The safe room can be pulled out and assembled within 10 seconds. After coming up with the design, founder...
Teen overdose deaths have doubled in three years, an alarming trend amid a historic decline in drug and alcohol use among high school students.   The main reason is fentanyl. Teens consume the powerful opioid unwittingly, packaged in counterfeit pills tailored to resemble less potent prescription medications. Drug traffickers lace pills with fentanyl to boost the black-market high. Dangerously addictive, fentanyl can be lethal, especially to children experimenting with drugs.   “Fentanyl, it’s just a different beast,” said Dr. Hoover Adger Jr., professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. “And it’s so deadly. You have a milligram of fentanyl being equivalent to 50 milligrams of heroin, being equivalent to 10...
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recalibrating his strategy and messaging amid signs that his presidential ambitions may be faltering before his campaign even gets off the ground.  DeSantis began the year with clear momentum in the nascent GOP presidential primary, topping former President Trump in head-to-head polling and drawing unparalleled interest from Republican voters and operatives eager to see a fresh face at the helm of the party.  But there are signs that his momentum may be stalling: he’s faced weeks of relentless attacks from Trump and his allies, fellow Republicans have criticized him for dubbing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “a territorial dispute” and some recent polls have shown his support in a hypothetical GOP primary slipping...
Parents cannot be required to pull their children from private schools in New York that fail to meet state-designated standards, a judge decided, striking down a key provision of rules recently passed to strengthen oversight of such schools, including those specializing in religious education. The ruling in a state trial court in Albany came in response to a lawsuit brought by  yeshivos, and related advocacy groups over education rules enacted last fall. Under the rules, the state’s 1,800 private and religious schools must provide an education that is “substantially equivalent” to that of a public school. Opponents in the ultra-Orthodox community say the rules improperly target yeshivos, some of which focus intently on religious instruction with far less ...
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud) Sunday, after Gallant publicly demanded the government freeze its judicial overhaul. The Prime Minister's Office announced that Netanyahu made the decision Sunday evening, a day after Gallant's public address regarding the judicial reform plan. "We need a change in the legal system, but such changes are made through negotiation and discourse," Gallant said. "A victory for one of the parties will be a loss of the State of Israel. We must lead a participatory and unifying process." "For the sake of Israel's security, the legislative process should be stopped, and negotiations should be held." Gallant had spoken with Netanyahu on Thursday, ahead of his planned address, which was ...

The unique gift, along with other impressive items, such as patches from his five Space Shuttle flight uniforms, were presented to the NLI in a ceremony on Thursday evening, March 23, 2023. The event opened with a short introductory film about Space Torah Project, the 25-minute documentary about how, in 1996, Hoffman brought a small Torah scroll on board Space Shuttle Columbia.
