Former national security adviser John Bolton said he thinks Republicans are looking for a “fresh face” to lead the party, becoming the latest former Trump ally to suggest the GOP move away from the former president. Bolton, who served in the Trump White House from 2018 to 2019, pointed to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) as a possible contender in a recent interview with The Guardian. “[DeSantis has] had a very successful run as governor of Florida. He won re-election on Nov. 8 with a big majority. A lot of people look to him as the next generation candidate,” Bolton said, according to The Guardian. “That’s one of Trump’s biggest problems – his act is old and tired now.” Former President Trump officially announced his thi...
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Tuesday appeared to take aim at former President Donald Trump over his decision to host rapper Kanye West and white supremacist Nick Fuentes for dinner last week at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, NBC News reported. The GOP's Senate leader opened his weekly news conference by saying, "First, let me just say that there is no room in the Republican Party for antisemitism or white supremacy. And anyone meeting with people advocating that point of view, in my judgment, are highly unlikely to ever be elected president of the United States." McConnell did not mention Trump in his remarks and when pressed by reporters about whether he would support the former president if he wins the GOP nomination in 2024, McConnell did ...
A federal jury in Washington on Tuesday found Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and Kelly Meggs, another member of the organization, guilty of seditious conspiracy in connection with the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, NBC News reported. Three other members of the group who were on trial alongside Rhodes and Meggs — Jessica Watkins, Kenneth Harrelson and Thomas Caldwell — were found not guilty on the seditious conspiracy charge, according to the report. All five defendants were found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting for their actions on Jan. 6. Watkins was also found guilty on a count of civil disorder and aiding and abetting because, as she admitted on the stand, she helped push against officers inside the Cap...

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi on Saturday called on soldiers to strive for “winning while maintaining humanity,” after two soldiers were suspended on Friday following a filmed confrontation with left-wing activists in Hebron. The footage showed one soldier, from the Givati infantry brigade, praising National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, telling left-wing activists that the minister would “create order here,” while a second is seen grabbing the head of an activist, wrestling him to the ground, and punching him in the face. Both soldiers have been suspended. In a letter, Kochavi wrote, “At the end of last week, we also witnessed an IDF soldier who did not only act in opposition to the IDF’s values and speak profanely t...
Leaked Palestinian Authority documents about Mahmoud Abbas, his entourage and his extended family’s participation in activities related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar have once more revealed his priorities and the priorities of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority. According to a report by Palestinian Media Watch on Monday, Abbas, the P.A., and the PLO have claimed that they have been in a severe financial crisis for almost a year. As a result, the P.A. has paid its employees (including terrorists) only 70-80% of their monthly salaries. This document from the office of Abbas provides details on his grandchildren accompanying him to Qatar and the World Cup:
Baltimore City's Board of Ethics has a problem with a recently passed council bill that changes the number of years elected officials have to serve in office before earning a pension. On Tuesday the Board wrote a letter to Mayor Brandon Scott requesting that he hold off on signing the bill into law, pending an advisory review. "The Ethics Board is concerned that it is impossible for the current Council, while in term, to have voted in favor of the amendment without giving the appearance of a conflict of interest; the terms of the Bill...serve the private and/or personal interests of the current Council." Council Bill 22-0292 as it's known, was sponsored by Council President Nick Mosby. It proposes that elected City officials who begin serving as of December 1 this year, would ...
Police Sergeant Majors David Yoel and Menashe Naftali, the officers who responded to the terrorist ramming attack in which a female soldier was moderately injured Tuesday morning and eliminated the attacker, described the pursuit of the terrorist. The policemen said: "We noticed a vehicle driving wildly, and at the same time we were hearing reports about an attack. We realized that it was the terrorist's vehicle. We spread out and stopped the vehicle, and fired at him, and he continued to escape towards Givat Assaf. We drove after him - he was endangering the other drivers on the road - and in the area of the checkpoint we approached him." The terrorist had a work permit and had been employed at a Rami Levy store in Binyamin about a month ago. He was also armed with a knif...
Dan's Deal reports that most of the passengers who were collectively denied boarding on their connecting flight 1334 to Budapest after flying on Lufthansa flight 401 from JFK to Frankfurt earlier this year have come to a settlement with the airline. Sources tell me that the airline has agreed to settle for $20,000 plus $1,000 to cover expenses related to the incident. The law firm that negotiated that settlement is taking 18% of the $20,000, leaving passengers with $16,400 plus $1,000 to cover expenses, for a total of $17,400 per passenger. Those checks are now being sent out. Roughly 128 passengers were denied boarding and 2 were allowed to board. If the airline paid out $21,000 to each of them, that would be an expense of about $2.7 million. However some passengers weren’t ...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) said that House lawmakers will take up legislation on Wednesday to stop a nationwide strike by railroad workers, saying Congress needs to intervene to prevent devastating job losses. In a press conference, Mrs. Pelosi said that the House will aim to quickly pass legislation that accepts the original labor union agreement negotiated by Biden administration officials plus additional railway worker benefits added from subsequent negotiations. “I don’t like going against the ability of unions to strike, but weighing the equities, we must avoid a strike. Jobs will be lost, even union jobs will be lost, water will not be safe, product will not be going to market,” she said Tuesday after meeting with President Biden...
Baltimore City and county police are looking into reports of fake ride-share drivers after at least two reports of robberies and kidnappings early Monday morning. The victim told police he ordered a ride-share from the valet area of Horseshoe Casino. From the start, the alleged driver headed in the wrong direction and when the victim started asking questions, the driver pulled over. That's when another vehicle showed up and five or six men armed with guns approached, ordering the victim out of the car and demanding his cellphone after striking him several times, police said. Police said the suspects then got back into their cars and drove away. "It's a little shocking because I personally use Uber to get home safely, so it's kind of the opposite of what I want," said Div...

Two amazing passages appear in this week's Torah portion and both of them teach us much about the power of love.At the beginning of the parasha, we read that Rachel Imeinu comes to water her flock at a well which is covered with a massive stone. Generally speaking, a combined effort of several shepherds is needed to move this stone from the mouth of the well. But what happens when Ya'akov takes one look at Rachel? "When Ya'akov saw Rachel . . . he went up and rolled the stone off the mouth of the well." Suddenly the heavy stone becomes light. Inspired by the sight of Rachel, Ya'akov virtually defies the law of gravity itself.Afterwards, Ya'akov works seven years in order to marry Rachel, and this period is described in the following beautiful verse: "So Ya'ako...
Five House Republicans have thrown Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s chance to become speaker in jeopardy by publicly opposing his bid. McCarthy (R-CA) needs every Republican vote he can pick up to become speaker. The position requires the support of 218 members of the House. With Republicans estimated to have a slim 222-seat majority, McCarthy can lost four votes form his party at most if he is to be elected speaker. Currently, there are at least five GOP House reps who oppose his speakership. There are also others who remain undecided, Fox News reported. Members vocally opposed to McCarty include Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
The vast majority of U.S. voters want to avoid a rail strike that would rattle the nation’s economy, according to a poll commissioned by the Association of American Railroads.  The survey, conducted by Forbes Tate Partners, found that 92 percent of voters believe it’s “important” for the U.S. to avert a strike, including 71 percent who say it’s “very important.” Eighty-five percent of those surveyed said that a rail strike would worsen inflation.  Roughly 115,000 freight railroad workers could go on strike as soon as Dec. 9 if labor unions cannot reach a contract agreement with railroads that satisfies workers’ demands for paid sick leave and more flexible scheduling.  Four of the 12 unions have not ratified a deal...
“Gaslighting” — behavior that’s mind manipulating, grossly misleading, downright deceitful — is Merriam-Webster’s word of the year. Lookups for the word on merriam-webster.com increased 1,740% in 2022 over the year before. But something else happened. There wasn’t a single event that drove significant spikes in curiosity, as it usually goes with the chosen word of the year. The gaslighting was pervasive. “It’s a word that has risen so quickly in the English language, and especially in the last four years, that it actually came as a surprise to me and to many of us,” said Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster’s editor at large, in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press ahead of Monday’s unveiling. “...
Supervisors in Arizona’s Maricopa County voted unanimously to certify their election canvass ahead of a state deadline on Monday, defying Republican objections. Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R) and others in the GOP have seized on printer malfunctions in Maricopa County, Arizona’s most populous jurisdiction that includes Phoenix, making it an epicenter for election challenges as they called on supervisors to vote against certification. The Republican-controlled board voted unanimously to certify the canvass on Monday at the conclusion of a tense meeting, insisting no voter was disenfranchised. Dozens of residents spoke about their concerns, at times interrupting supervisors, including some attendees who were escorted out of the room. “These conve...
Elon Musk on Monday went on a tear against top Twitter advertiser Apple, after he said the company threatened to block the social network from its App Store without explanation and mostly had stopped advertising on Twitter. The tirade underscored the immense power that Apple wields over Twitter’s success, and the role it could play in serving as a check against Musk’s chaotic rein at the social network. If the company were to block Twitter from its App Store, new users would be unable to download the Twitter app on their iPhones and iPads, and existing users would be unable to access updates. Apple is also among the highest advertising spenders on Twitter, and Musk sought to put pressure on the company and CEO Tim Cook in a series of tweets for pausing that spend. Apple was ...
The Israel Air Force this week will hold one of its largest drills in years with the United States Air Force simulating offensive strikes against Iran’s nuclear program. The drill will take place from Tuesday until Thursday over the Mediterranean Sea and Israel. It will include long-range flights such as those that Israeli pilots might need to make in order to reach the Islamic Republic. The exercise will include refuelers as well as fighter jets from both forces. Washington and Israel have signed an agreement that would see the US come to assist Israel with missile defense in times of war, and the two militaries have held numerous joint air defense exercises in recent years
