Pope Francis explained that, “In light of the religious heritage that we share, let us regard the present as a challenge that unites us, as an incentive to act together.”
“Our two communities of faith are entrusted with the task of working to make the world more fraternal, combating forms of inequality and promoting greater justice, so that peace will not remain an otherworldly promise, but become a present reality in our world,” he added.

EDISON, N.J.—It was a moment that pulled on the heartstrings of Jews around the world: A frail octogenarian waving his cane in joy followed by a sudden burst of tears.
The scene unfolded as Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, vice chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, welcomed the emissaries to the Land of Israel during the roll call at the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries (Kinus Hashluchim) and the orchestra began to play a lively Chassidic song to the words of Isaiah’s prophecy: “Take counsel an...

A shooter opened fire in a Walmart in Virginia, leaving six people dead, police said, in the country's second high-profile mass killing in a handful of days. The assailant is also dead.
The store in Chesapeake was busy just before the shooting Tuesday night with people stocking up ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, a shopper told a local TV station.
In addition to the six killed, four were injured.
Police Chief Mark Solesky said the shooter was a Walmart employee. The chief said the shooter used a pistol during the shooting.
The unidentified shooter likely died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.
Officer Leo Kosinski couldn’t say how the shooter died but said that he didn’t believe police fired shots. It was not clear who the shooter was or what their m...

Excuse the question, but how many hours did you sleep last night? Are you tired and weary? When we speak about this week's Torah portion of Toldot, we speak primarily about Ya'akov and Esav, about Esav's sale of his birthright as the firstborn son, and about the blessing of Yitzchak Avinu. But what brings Esav to give up his birthright to Ya'akov? It's a seemingly technical detail, yet full of meaning:"Esav came in from the field and he was weary. He said to Ya'akov: 'Give me some of that red stuff to gulp down since I am weary.'''Esav was weary and the word appears here twice. A weary person cannot concentrate or focus. Peace of mind is gone along with the ability to act prudently. Esav does not even manage to say "lentil stew," but blurts...
