For a third day in a row, trucks have been backed up past the highway exit to get into the Port of Baltimore and load up their rigs. Drivers said it is a problem that impacts all consumers. "It's like this every day," is what lots of truckers shouted to 11 News Wednesday from their cabs while waiting in line to load up at the Port of Baltimore. Inside the port, there are more lines and hours of idling, truckers tell 11 News. Some truckers sent 11 News photos of what that looked like. Others asked not to be identified for fear of retribution and feared a repeat of what they say happened earlier this week when the port closed early and trucks were turned away empty. "Monday they shutdown at 4 p.m. they just told everybody, 'The port's closed. Go home.' Yesterday, the...

1. It is hard to believe that the coronavirus was responsible for the beginning of a wonderful Yom Kippur tradition. When synagogues were closed due to the pandemic, Rosh Yehudi, a community outreach organization in Tel Aviv, held Yom Kippur services in Dizengoff Square. This year, those who previously participated were asking: "So that's it? We won't be praying where we did last year?" So it was decided to pray there again. More than two thousand people gathered in Dizengoff Square, and the famous fountain was even shut off for a day in order that everyone would be able to hear and follow the service. All the prayer books brought by the organizers were distributed and every plastic chair was taken; it was standing room only.2. After the service was over, I was approached by Lena...

President Biden told Rev. Al Sharpton that he will run for re-election in 2024 during a visit to the White House that was reportedly recounted by the clergyman to his staffers. Sharpton shared the revelation with employees of his National Action Network after meeting with the commander-in-chief earlier this month, NBC News reported on Monday. “I’m going to do it again,” Biden told Sharpton as they posed for a photograph in the Roosevelt Room, a National Action Network official recounted Sharpton saying. Biden, 79, met with leaders of civil rights organizations on Sept. 2, including Sharpton, the White House said in a readout from that meeting. “The group discussed their shared commitment to advancing legislation protecting voting rights and t...
CIA Director William Burns says it is difficult to determine if Russian President Vladimir Putin is bluffing about his threat to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. But Burns added the U.S. has to take the warnings seriously. Burns made his comments during an interview on "CBS Evening News with Nora O'Donnell." He was asked if he saw any signs Russia was intending to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. "Well, we have to take very seriously his kind of threats given everything that's at stake," Burns said. "And, you know, the rhetoric that he and other senior Russian leaders have used is reckless and deeply irresponsible. "We don't see any practical evidence today in the U.S. intelligence community that he's moving closer to actual use, that there's an imminent threat ...

U.S. job openings unexpectedly dropped in August to the lowest level in over a year as the Federal Reserve tries to bring down near-record high inflation and cool the labor market.  The Labor Department said Tuesday that there were 10.1 million job openings in August – a major decline from the previous month's revised reading of 11.17 million.  Still, the number of available jobs has topped 10 million for 15 consecutive months; before the pandemic began in February 2020, the highest on record was 7.7 million. The Federal Reserve closely watches these figures as it tries to gauge labor market tightness; the lower-than-expected number of openings could provide some relief for policymakers as they try to slow the economy and cool painfully high in...
Almost everyone has felt the sting of rising prices. As of August, 60% of Americans were living paycheck to paycheck, according to a recent LendingClub report — a number that hasn’t budged much since inflation hit 40-year highs. A year ago, the number of adults who felt stretched too thin was closer to 55%. Even high-income earners are feeling the strain, the report found. Of those earning more than six figures, 45% reported living paycheck to paycheck, a jump from the previous year’s 38%.  “More consumers living paycheck to paycheck indicates that many are continuing to lose their financial stability,” said Anuj Nayar, LendingClub’s financial health officer. Inflation is a persistent problem The consumer price index, which meas...

Morris, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, said Hillary is setting herself up to enter the race as a “moderate” choice for Democrats in two years for what would be her third shot at the White House. “I see more and more signs that Hillary’s going to run,” Morris told John Catsimatidis on his WABC 770 AM radio show in an interview that aired Sunday, noting that she has been remarking that Americans “do not believe in open borders.” “These are a...
North Korea on Tuesday conducted its longest-ever weapons test, a nuclear-capable ballistic missile that flew over Japan and could reach the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam and beyond, forcing the Japanese government to issue evacuation alerts and halt trains. The South Korean and U.S. militaries responded by launching fighter jets which fired weapons at a target off South Korea’s west coast in a show of strength against North Korea. The North Korean missile launch was its most provocative weapons demonstration this year, as it pushes to develop a fully fledged nuclear arsenal capable of threatening the U.S. mainland and its allies with the goal of wresting concessions from those countries, some experts say. North Korea has test-fired about 40 missiles over about 20 different launc...
