Baltimore County will be activating four new speed cameras in three school zones. The cameras will be in these locations — Woodholme Elementary School, 300 block of Mt Wilson Lane (westbound); New Town High School & Elementary, 9300 block of Lakeside Blvd (both north and southbound); Randallstown High School, 9200 block of Winands Road (eastbound). For the first 30 days, motorists exceeding the speed limit by 12 mph or more will receive warnings rather than citations. All speed camera zones are marked with signage. In compliance with state law, Baltimore County’s speed cameras operate Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., including during the summer months and on weekdays when school in not in session. There is currently a considerable backlog and delay in obtaining Embassy appointments. Many travelers’ plans have been disrupted by the inability to obtain US passports in a timely fashion. With less than a month until students head back to class, public school districts in Maryland are still looking to fill hundreds of teacher positions. Baltimore City Schools said, as of July 25th, it had 645 teacher vacancies. On July 28th, Baltimore County Public Schools reported 435 teacher openings. Anne Arundel County Public Schools, in its August 3rd update on district-wide hiring, said it needed to fill 385 teacher vacancies. Howard County and Harford County Public Schools tell FOX45 News they need to hire 96 and 35 teacher openings, respectively. There has been an increase in carjackings throughout Baltimore City this year compared to this time last year, and it has left many residents terrified. Now, some city leaders are talking about how they’re working to combat this violent crime. According to Baltimore City Councilman James Torrence, from District 7, some of the more recent carjackings have had some similarities.  Gas prices keep dropping, though they remain high compared to last year. The state average is $4.16 a gallon. But Baltimore, Carroll and Harford Counties are seeing some of the lowest prices state-wide. At this Carroll Fuel Station in Towson, the cash price for gas is $3.87 and $3.91 if you pay with a card. AAA says the constant price drops we've been seeing for weeks could slow down though. They say gas demand increased last week. Though it is still lower than last year, they say price decreasing could slow if the trend holds. They also say drivers are changing how they drive because of prices. Republican Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski died Wednesday at the age of 58.
