A person of interest connected to an attack where six people were gunned down six people and many others were injured during a shooting at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, a wealthy suburb of Chicago, has been captured following an hours-long manhunt.  He killed at least six people and wounded about two dozen more from a rooftop perch before fleeing, Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said during an afternoon news briefing. Five of those killed were found at the scene and were adults, authorities said. Another was taken to a hospital where they died.  A child was among those hurt and was critically injured, authorities said.
While hundreds of laws are passed in Albany every year, amendments to the New York State Constitution are rare. Yet, that is just what was proposed by New York legislators last week in an “extraordinary session,” and its results could have significantly weakened religious freedom in the state.   In response to the United States Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which gave states more leeway to restrict abortions, New York legislators decided to do the opposite, and enshrine abortion rights, as well as that of various gender roles and identities, in its Constitution. Moreover, the “Equal Rights Amendment” would have afforded additional rights to some, but specifically excluded those protections for religion and creed.    Agudath I...
At least six people were killed and 24 were wounded in a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and at least some of them were Jewish, according to information provided by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which has contacted the US State Department. No names or further information has been provided at this time. A Lubavitcher bochur was running a tefillin stand at the parade when shots rang out a block away from him. His father, Eliezer Zalmanov, wrote in a Twitter post that his son called to say that he was safe and that he had evacuated to a nearby Chabad house. Officers are searching for the suspect who likely fired on the festivities from a rooftop, police said. Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill urged people to shelter in place as aut...
What's the most beautiful story you know about the Lubavitcher Rebbe? I was asked to answer this question when being interviewed this week in connection to the 28th anniversary of the Rebbe's passing, which was observed on the 3rd of Tammuz. It took some time for me to choose but I believe that the following story is the most beautiful one that I know.Rabbi Moshe Feller, chief Chabad emissary to Minnesota, was asked to write an article for a newspaper on Judaism, Torah, and Chasidut. He tried to explain in the article what Torah does for another person and wrote that when a person faints and loses consciousness, it is said you must get close to their ear and shout their name in order for them to wake up. In the same way, he wrote, when a person is far from their Judaism, far from...
Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was booed after she appeared on stage at a concert in Minneapolis this weekend. The incident occurred late Saturday night at a concert by Somali singer Suldaan Seeraar held at Target Center. Omar appeared on stage with her husband, Tim Mynett, and was introduced to the crowd. Immediately after the introduction, audience members began to boo the congresswoman, shouting, among other things “Go home" and other "expressions." As Omar attempted to address the crowd, the jeering increased, drowning out Omar’s comments. Omar responded to the jeers, saying: “Okay, okay, okay, we don’t have all night.”

A Sun-Times reporter saw blankets placed over three bloodied bodies. Several witnesses told the newspaper that they heard gunfire. Hundreds of parade-goers — some visibly bloodied — fled the parade route, leaving behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets. Police told people: “Everybody disperse, please. It is not safe to be here.” Highland Park Police said in a statement early Monday afternoon that five people had been killed and 19 people were t...

A Black man was unarmed when Akron police chased him on foot and killed him in a hail of gunfire, but officers believed he had shot at them earlier from a vehicle and feared he was preparing to fire again, authorities said Sunday at a news conference. Akron police released video of the shooting of Jayland Walker, 25, who was killed June 27 in a pursuit that had started with an attempted traffic stop. The mayor called the shooting “heartbreaking” while asking for patience from the community. It’s not clear how many shots were fired by the eight officers involved, but Walker sustained more than 60 wounds. An attorney for Walker’s family said officers kept firing even after he was on the ground. Officers attempted to stop Walker’s car around 12:30 a.m. for uns...
The US released the results of the ballistic examination of the bullet Monday which killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh during a firefight between IDF and terrorist forces in Jenin in May. The State Department said: "After an extremely detailed forensic analysis, independent, third-party examiners, as part of a process overseen by the U.S. Security Coordinator (USSC), could not reach a definitive conclusion regarding the origin of the bullet that killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh. Ballistic experts determined the bullet was badly damaged, which prevented a clear conclusion." "In addition to the forensic and ballistic analysis, the USSC was granted full access to both Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinian Authority (PA) investigations over the last ...

"We stress that the issuance of permits, both for residents of the Judea and Samaria region and for residents of the Gaza Strip, will be subject to security assessments," COGAT said, using the biblica...
Stock up on Forever stamps now, or forever hold your peace. The United States Postal Service’s plan to raise stamp prices is taking effect on July 10. The price of a Forever stamp will rise from 58 cents to 60 cents. A Forever stamp, as its name suggests, can be used to mail a letter regardless of when it was purchased. That means if you bought a book of Forever stamps 10 years ago, when the price was 45 cents each, you can still use them to mail letters now, even though prices have climbed. The price hike, which raises the cost of First-Class Mail by 6.5%, is still lower than high inflation rates, the Postal Service said. The cost of all goods is up 8.6% over the past year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
