Anyone with information is requested to call 911 or 410-307-2020
At least one person was shot at Pikesville's Bonnie Ridge Apartments, off of Smith Avenue, around rush hour Thursday. Baltimore County police responded to a report of a shooting at about 5:40 p.m. in the 6000 block of Copper Ridge Drive. They did not immediately provide more information. A resident told WMAR that she saw the shooting victim and tried to help him. She noted she was from Chicago and was used to frequent violence, but the shooting at Bonnie Ridge was highly unusual.
I was coming down Bonnie Ridge and I got a call from my son. He was frantic, screaming on the phone, 'Hurry, get home, there's a shootout.' And I didn't understand what he was saying.
Robin Mosley said she found the shooting victim leaning up against anothe...
Parshas Korach is filled with mussar and lessons which literally flow out of every pasuk.  One of the more perplexing psukim comes after Hashem performs this unbelievable giluy Shechina and the ground swallows up Korach and his followers, who were rebelling against Moshe and Aharon.  Indeed, Moshe warns Bnei Yisroel to separate themselves from Korach, Dasan and Aviram because Hashem will “create a Nes, the ground will open up and swallow them alive”. (Korach 17:30) Upon seeing Hashem’s Nes, prophetically foretold by Moshe to demonstrate that all of Moshe’s teachings and directives were from Hashem, the very next day they are rebelling against Moshe again. (17:6) Specifically, the pasuk says “the entire Bnei Yisroel complained that Moshe ha...
We have just begun the month of Tamuz. It is taught that this month — תמוז, serves as an acronym for the sentiment — זמני תשובה ממשמשין ובאין — the season of repentance is materializing and approaching. In three months, we will be blowing the Shofar. We will be reciting seven times, one of the chapters of Tehillim composed by the ‘sons of Korach’. The late great Posek and leader, Rav Yosef Shalom Eliyashiv, cites a Midrash that describes how Moshe and all the other great sages came forward to hear the שיר ידידות — song of endearment, the sons of Korach expressed after being swallowed up into the earth, and although poised to fall into the gates of Gehinom, aroused themselves at the last minute to repent and sing this m...

Marylanders woke up this morning to higher gas prices. Because of a state law that went into effect July 1, overnight, the state gas tax increased 18% to 43 cents. It adds 7 cents a gallon to the price at the pump. With prices already high, several state leaders are calling for another tax holiday to bring some relief. Yesterday, Gov. Larry Hogan released a video and statement calling on state leaders to take action, hold a special session and vote for another holiday. “There is no reason why we cannot come together to provide much-needed relief for the crushing costs of gas burdening Marylanders,” wrote Hogan. Comptroller Peter Franchot, who is running for governor, also tried to get another holiday in place to prevent the increase. However, the leaders of the Maryland ...

In this week’s parshah, Korach brought himself and 250 chachamim to essentially end their own lives, by challenging Moshe Rabbeinu. Why? Chazal explain that they did so due to wanting a position of higher honor. How could this be? These were from the most respected chachamim in the nation, and, were people who already had plenty of honor (see Rashi). What were they thinking? Also, when Moshe approached Dasan and Aveiram, they completely ignored Moshe’s request to meet, which resulted in their own eternal deaths. Were they out of their minds? How can we understand their actions? Have you ever heard of Cancel Culture? People have challenged each other’s views for much of human history, and often, they were able to agree to disagree. But the internet – particularly...
