Palestinian sources said clashes erupted between Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants and IDF soldiers Palestinian gunfire and fireworks lightly wounded three Jewish worshipers at Joseph's Tomb in Nablus, the West Bank, according to reports early Thursday. The Samaria Regional Council said thousands of worshipers arrived overnight to pray at the Jewish holy site, which is located in the Palestinian Authority-controlled area. The gunmen, who Palestinian reports said were members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, opened fire and hurled Molotov cocktails at the soldiers tasked with protecting the worshipers.
The national price of gasoline dropped for a second consecutive week just in time for a holiday weekend where many Americans will hit the road to travel for vacation and July 4 celebrations. The average price for a gallon of gas is $4.86, according to AAA, down 9 cents from a week ago but still $1.70 higher than last year. The main driver of the decrease at the pump has been a drop in crude oil prices, which make up roughly 60% of the cost of fuel. Some analysts attribute the drop in crude oil to fears of recessions in the world’s economies due to rising interest rates and inflation. “Fear is not a good reason to move a market like the one for oil, but it is a powerful motivator,” said Andrew Gross, a AAA spokesperson. “The cost of oil accounts for nea...
There’s renewed concern after an audit of the Baltimore Police Department released shows a number of Baltimore's CitiWatch cameras haven’t been functioning properly for more than a year. One man told WMAR-2 News it’s a problem the city can’t afford to leave unresolved as crime overloads officers. A deadly triple shooting Sunday, another murder on Monday, an officer dragged by a repeat violent offender Tuesday and a stand-off with that same suspect bleeding into Wednesday afternoon, it's a trend of violence, this week alone, Baltimore police are struggling with. A report from the office of legislative audits finds that a percentage of the cameras present when officers can’t be –simply don't work.
The same Baltimore City judge made plea deal with previously convicted felons who came back to commit violent crimes while out of jail. Judge Melissa Phinn previously ordered supervised probations for Austin Davidson, who was arrested for killing a Wicomico County deputy on June 12, and Joseph Black, accused of dragging a Baltimore City police officer for two blocks on Tuesday, according to court documents. Judge Phinn has been serving as the Associate Judge of Baltimire City Circuit County, 8th Judicial Court since 2013. Judge Phinn sentenced Austin Davidson to three years supervised probation on July 29, 2020 after he pleaded guilty to armed robbery in Baltimore. The Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office issued a statement, saying prosecutors had sought ja...
Ketanji Brown Jackson will be sworn in Thursday to formally become a Supreme Court justice, officially making her the nation’s first Black woman to serve in the role. She will fill the seat being vacated by the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, 83, whose previously announced departure after nearly 28 years on the bench will take effect Thursday at noon. Jackson is expected to join Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan in forming a three-member liberal minority on the court, a role previously filled by Breyer, for whom Jackson once clerked. At 51, Jackson’s replacement of Breyer adds youth and diversity, and on certain issues a likely more liberal approach than Breyer, known for his judicial modesty and pragmatism. Although Jackson’s addition does not funda...
The Biden administration announced Wednesday that is paying $3.2 billion for 105 million doses of an updated Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for a fall campaign, pending Food and Drug Administration signoff on the new formula.   The order is a major step in the administration’s efforts to move forward with a new vaccination push this fall, in a bid to blunt a renewed COVID-19 surge when the weather turns colder in much of the country.   The updated vaccine is expected to target the omicron variant, with the goal of providing improved protection.   The new doses are expected to begin to be delivered “as soon as late summer 2022 and continue into the fourth quarter of this year,” Pfizer said in a news release.   The Biden administration is usi...
'Biden administration's approach to rescuing Americans in distress in Iran has failed spectacularly' A US citizen held for nearly seven years in Iran made an appeal from prison Wednesday to President Joe Biden, urging a deal to free Americans regardless of the outcome of nuclear diplomacy. In an op-ed published in The New York Times, 50-year-old Iranian-American businessman Siamak Namazi said he was concerned about repercussions he might suffer for speaking out while confined to Tehran's infamous Evin prison. "But I am compelled to break that silence now because I believe that the Biden administration's approach to rescuing Americans in distress in Iran has failed spectacularly so far and unless the president intervenes immediately, we are likely to...
The Secret Service said on Tuesday that it will have more to say about allegations that former President Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of his vehicle and then lunged at the head of his security detail when informed he would not be able to join his supporters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. “The Secret Service has been cooperating fully with the select committee since its inception in spring of 2021 and we will continue to do so by responding formally and on the record to the committee regarding new allegations that surfaced in today’s testimony,” the agency said in a statement. The revelation about Trump’s behavior came Tuesday from Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows who testified before the House commit...
Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who led a broad but fragile coalition government that came unraveled barely a year after taking office, announced Wednesday that he will not run in upcoming elections. His government announced last week that it would dissolve the Knesset ahead of elections expected this fall, but the voting required for dissolution has been bogged down by disputes with the opposition. “I strived as prime minister to care for all citizens, regardless of who they voted for,” he said in a brief prime-time address. “We proved this year that people with all different opinions can work together.” Bennett’s office said he will continue to serve as alternate prime minister in a caretaker government to be led by Yair Lapid, the architect of th...

As of noon, detectives were still on the scene. WJZ has learned from sources that this thing may be connected to a an incident Tuesday night where a sergeant was hit during a traffic stop and dragged about two blocks. Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., said the Biden administration again will prevent South Dakota from celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks at Mount Rushmore. After the administration rejected Noem's permit request for fireworks last year, the state in September applied to hold fireworks at the national memorial this year. The request was denied. "We are not going to be able to host those fireworks this year at Mount Rushmore. I am suing [President] Joe Biden and the White House over not allowing us to move forward with that. The fact is that they're violating federal law by not letting South Dakota celebrate our independence over that great monument," Noem said on "The Chad Prather Show." "One of the reasons that they are doing that, I think, is specific to punishing...
Congressman Lee Zeldin has emerged from the four-way Republican primary for governor as the winner, beating out Andrew Giuliani, the son of Rudy Giuliani, according to a race call from The Associated Press. Zeldin, of Long Island, had the backing of Republican Party leaders across the state who voted earlier this year to make him their designated candidate — a distinction that gave him an automatic spot on the primary ballot without petitioning. But incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul is the candidate to beat in this race. New York has more than twice as many registered Democrats than registered Republicans, with independent voters also outpacing the GOP. Hochul, a Democrat from Buffalo, who had been New York's No. 2 official, rose to power in August after former Gov...

A new COVID wave appears to be starting in New York City, fueled by the strongest subvariant of the omicron strain of coronavirus to date, one of the city's top epidemiologists said Tuesday. The BA.5 subvariant, first seen in South Africa and then Portugal, is considered by some experts to be the "worst version" of omicron seen yet, given its apparent capacity to escape prior immunity and transmit more readily. Dr. Jay Varma, a Weill Cornell epidemiologist and formerly then-mayor Bill de Blasio's top public health advisor during the pandemic, said infections appear to have stabilized at a high level in the city, rather than dropping. "The decline of reported #COVID19 cases in NYC has stopped. Reported cases are at a high plateau, which means actual transmis...
The Biden administration is planning to give between 25,000 and 30,000 courses of the Jynneos vaccine—the only one approved by federal regulators—to high-risk states as part of its monkeypox strategy, to be unveiled Tuesday evening, sources told The Washington Post. “Over the next week or so, the plan is to distribute some portion of the existing Jynneos, but not all of it, because they want to save doses for confirmed close contacts,” an official said. The nation’s Strategic National Stockpile was stocked with more than 36,000 courses of Jynneos as of June 14, the Post reported, but the U.S. will obtain 150,000 more for distribution in late July. James Krellenstein, co-founder of PrEP4ALL, has been critical of the slow response as the vir...
