The United States Supreme Court today issued a landmark ruling that positively impacts religious schools’ ability to participate in state aid programs. The Court ruled that the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause prohibits states from discriminating not only against schools that identify as religious, but also those that actively teach religious subjects. This ruling eases the way for state aid to flow to parents who choose to send their children to religious schools.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 Tuesday that a Maine tuition assistance program violated the First Amendment's Free Exercise Clause for excluding religious schools from eligibility.
The program provides tuition assistance for students without a local public school to attend private institutions – as long as the funding is not used for religious or "sectarian" teaching.

The Achronim ask a chakira regarding tzitzis. Is the “begged” of the tzitzis considered part of the mitzvah or is it considered a hechsher mitzvah, as we find that a house is just a hechsher for the mezuzah.
The Bais HaLevi in 1:5 and the Avnei Nezer Yoreh Deah 390 say that the ikkar reason one puts on the “begged” of tzitzis is to have an extra covering on the body. The Kehillas Yaakov in Yevamos 7 concurs and says the mitzvah of making tzitzis only applies to the strings of the tzitzis but putting on the begged itself is not the mitzvah.

Third annual campaign tops previous years
Jerusalem, Israel – In its May Campaign for Yeshivot & Seminaries in Israel, World Mizrachi helped over 20 gap-year institutions throughout the country raise a record US$6,048,776 in critical funds to cover infrastructure, educational programming and student scholarships.

Five major US cities are already on track to break their steep 2021 homicide figures — suggesting a particularly violent summer ahead.
This year’s homicide numbers for Los Angeles, Washington DC, Baltimore, Milwaukee and Atlanta have all surpassed the rates reached at the same time in 2021, according to the data, first reported by Fox News.
Milwaukee has been the city with the largest spike, recording 96 homicides as of June 17 — a 25% increase compared to its 77 figure recorded this time last year.

MK Uri Maklev of the United Torah Judaism party on Tuesday morning said that if former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not succeed in winning 61 Knesset seats in the upcoming elections, UTJ will hold negotiations with Defense Minister Benny Gantz (Blue and White).

Over 10,000 new Covid cases were recorded in Israel on Sunday, the highest number since April 4, according to Health Ministry data released Monday.
Of the 26,200 authorized PCR and antigen tests taken on Sunday, 38.95 percent returned positive. Israel's R-number stands at 1.32, a slight increase from the day before.

A fake user took advantage of the glitch
Nearly 100 Israeli army officers and defense officials had their personal details revealed in a security breach in the Strava exercise app, which also disclosed locations of secret army bases.
The breach was discovered by the Israeli open source investigative group FakeReporter and was reported to the country’s government, according to Haaretz.
