A crash involving three tractor-trailers Tuesday afternoon closed a portion of the Fort McHenry Tunnel, according to the Baltimore firefighters union.
The union said hazardous materials crews were requested due to spilled diesel fuel.
Additional paramedic units have been called.
According to the Maryland Transportation Authority, the right tube of the southbound tunnel is closed, but the left tube remains open for traffic.

A joint military exercise in which Russia and China flew nuclear-capable bombers Tuesday during President Biden’s trip to eastern Asia demonstrates how both sides remain close "even as Russia brutalizes Ukraine," a senior administration official tells Fox News.

First visit to Jewish state by a senior Turkish official in more than a decade
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu landed in Israel on Tuesday for a landmark visit amid warming relations between Jerusalem and Ankara.
The diplomat's two-day visit also includes a stop on Tuesday in Ramallah to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.
On Wednesday, Çavuşoğlu will meet with Israel's Foreign Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov. He is also scheduled to visit Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem.

Tel Aviv University study reveals mechanism shared by genetic mutations linked to autism, Alzheimer's
Israeli researchers from Tel Aviv University discovered a mechanism shared by genetic mutations associated with autism, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and other brain disorders.
The research team was led by by Prof. Illana Gozes from the Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine and the Sagol School of Neuroscience.
They also found that an experimental drug called Davunetide that was previously developed in Prof. Gozes' lab was effective in animal models for the mutations and may be suitable for treating rare syndromes that impair brain functions.

Gov. Larry Hogan said he’s been invited to attend this summer’s Iowa State Fair, a key stop for candidates with presidential aspirations.
"We’ve been invited to join some folks out there, and we’re looking forward to that one, as well.”
Make no mistake, though, Hogan plans to be at the Maryland State Fairgrounds this summer.
“I’m not going to skip the Maryland fair, you can count on that,” he said.

The police union in Baltimore County seeks to remove the police chief.
The Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4 sent a letter Monday to County Executive Johnny Olszewski, calling on him to remove Chief Melissa Hyatt from her position.
The letter states the FOP has lost all faith and confidence in Hyatt and it lists eight reasons why it feels she should be fired. Among those reasons, the FOP writes, includes her support for a disciplinary process for internal complaints that would have eliminated due process trial boards.

Roberta Metsola on her first visit to the Jewish state
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola pledged to strengthen ties with Israel and fight antisemitism in a speech on Monday at the Knesset in Jerusalem.
"Being antisemitic means being anti-European," Metsola told lawmakers gathered at Israel's parliament for the special address.
"This is my first visit, but it won't be my last," the 43-year-old who was elected in January said.
Metsola is the youngest person ever to hold the EU parliament presidency and the first from Malta.

Israel’s police appealed a Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court decision on Monday to overturn a ruling that Jews may pray on the Temple Mount.
The court ruled Sunday in favor of Jewish youths who were arrested for bowing and reciting the “Shema Israel” prayer on the Temple Mount last week during Nakba Day.
Police sought to ban the worshipers from the Temple Mount, but the court ruled that the young Jews' actions did not disturb the peace or interfere with police on duty.

While Israel is waiting until September to see if the rate of Israelis denied entry to the United States falls below the 3% threshold, US officials say the figure looks “encouraging”, Kan 11 News reported on Monday.
In recent months, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid have been making efforts to end all bureaucratic and security issues vis-à-vis the US administration by September, in order to lead to an exemption from visas for Israelis.
