A D.C. police officer was shot Sunday in Northwest, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed.
In a tweet, the department said the officer was transported to a hospital and a "barricade has been declared in the 1400 block of Quincy Street NW."
The officer, whose name has not been revealed, is from the 4th District.
More information about the suspect and circumstances of the shooting was not provided.

Cabinet votes in favor of probe into corruption allegations around Netanyahu-era purchase of German vessels
The Israeli government on Sunday approved the establishment of a commission of inquiry to examine allegations of corruption in the “submarine affair,” an agreement signed between Israel and a German naval shipbuilder in 2016.
The commission will be tasked with investigating how Israel purchased submarines and missile ships from Germany's Thyssenkrupp.
Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not been linked as a suspect in the scandal, referred to as "Case 3000," however some of his closest associated were implicated in the case involving accusations of bribery and conflict of interest in the $2 billion deal.

A Muslim man who promoted what he called “jihad fighting by sword” was found guilty on Wednesday of encouraging terrorism at his local mosque in the United Kingdom, reported the Evening Standard.
Abubaker Deghayes, 53, of East Sussex addressed 50 or so worshippers, including children and young adults, at the Brighton Mosque and Muslim Community Centre on Nov. 1, 2020.
In a video of his speech that was played to the court, Deghayes, who is originally from Libya, makes a stabbing gesture and says in part “Jihad, jihad, jihad. Jihad is compulsory. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Sunday said Senate Republicans are “laughing all the way to Election Day” because “they have not had to cast one bloody vote” on the Democrats' roughly $1.2 trillion social spending and climate package, which is stalled in the upper chamber.

A man was pushed onto subway tracks at a Lower Manhattan station Sunday, suffering minor injuries, police said.
The 61-year-old victim landed on the roadbed on the southbound A/C line at the Fulton Street station around 11:30 a.m., cops said.
The victim was able to climb back onto the platform while not making any contact with a train, an NYPD spokesman said.
He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital.
The pusher, who was described as a man in his 20s wearing a camouflage jacket, fled the station on foot, the spokesman said.

Israeli Internal Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev on Saturday night denied a recent press report that the Israel Police has been using NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware against citizens, without a court order, through use of a legal loophole.

For the first time in Israel, donor liver machine perfusion (MP) was performed before transplantation, and the improved liver was successfully transplanted into a patient, reported Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center on Wednesday.
MP is a preservation method that has been developed to reduce the incidence and severity of donor liver injury and to improve outcomes after organ transplantation, said Dr. Yaacov Goykhman, head of the Organ Transplant Unit at the hospital.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit initially offered former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu a far more lenient plea deal in his corruption trial than the one currently being discussed, but backed away due to a flood of pressure from key figures in the prosecution, Channel 12 reported Friday.
According to the report, Netanyahu, 72, the current opposition leader, would only have had to commit to stepping away from public life for two years, with the charges also being significantly lowered in two of the cases against him and dismissed in the third.

Law enforcement reportedly tapped the phones of at least three mayors and heads of local councils
Israel’s police used the NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware on mayors of local authorities as well as their relatives and close associates, according to a report by the business newspaper Calcalist.

Country facing surge in energy demand as citizens crank up heaters to cope with frigid temperatures
Iran's oil ministry on Sunday urged people to wear warm clothes to reduce a surging demand for gas, as people turn up their heaters to cope with bitterly cold winter temperatures.
Iran has the world's second largest gas reserves after Russia, and the fourth largest oil reserves. Gas is almost free in Iran because it is heavily subsidized.
"Gas consumption can be managed by wearing warm clothes and turning off heating appliances when leaving home and work," Oil Minister Javad Owji said Sunday, according to the ministry's Shana news agency.

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has submitted a request to the Tel Aviv District Court asking that the Netanyahu family – former premier Benjamin, his wife Sara, and son Yair – be subjected to psychiatric evaluation.
Olmert is currently being tried for defamation with the plaintiffs being the Netanyahu family, after Olmert publicly suggested that they suffered from mental illness. According to a report in the Haaretz newspaper, the chances of the judge granting Olmert’s request are low.

A United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Israel was forced to turn around back to the US Friday morning after two Israeli passengers began disrupting the flight, causing a commotion after they were asked for proof that they were sitting in their assigned seats, Hebrew media reported.
According to passenger witness Roi Lotan, an hour-and-a-half after departure, flight attendants approached two Israeli passengers who were seated in business class, Channel 12 reported. The attendants asked for their tickets to see if they were indeed supposed to be sitting there.
However, the two passengers did not present tickets. Instead, according to Lotan, “A riot started.”
Ultimately, the plane was forced to turn around and the passengers were removed from the plane.

For the second time in recent hours, another earthquake was felt in the north of the country.
The additional earthquake, which took place Sunday afternoon, was of 3.5 magnitude on the Richter scale. The focus of the noise was 16 km southeast of Tiberias.
Following the quake, Beit She'an municipality workers were evacuated from offices as part of earthquake procedures. After about ten minutes they returned to offices.
The quake came after residents of northern Israel on Saturday night reported feeling an earthquake.
According to reports, the earthquake was felt in Tiberias, Tzfat, Yavne'el, Haifa, and the Krayot.
The quake, which measured at 4.1 magnitude, was felt in Jordan as well as in Israel. Its epicenter was reported to be south of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).
