Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with the members of the IDF General Staff Forum, together with Defense Minister Benny Gantz, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi and Defense Ministry Director General Maj,-Gen. (ret.) Amir Eshel, at the Kirya in Tel Aviv, today (Thursday, 20 January 2022).

The Israel Ministry of Defense and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems have signed an agreement for the development and production of three advanced submarines for the Israeli Navy.
Defense Minister, Benny Gantz: “The procurement of three advanced, operational submarines joins a series of measures that we have taken in the past year in the process to equip and strengthen and IDF. I would like to thank the German government for its assistance in advancing the agreement and for its commitment to Israel's security. I am confident that the new submarines will upgrade the capabilities of the Israeli Navy, and will contribute to Israel's security superiority in the region."

Suspects being questioned in custody by counterterrorism unit
British police on Thursday arrested two men over their alleged roles in a hostage-taking by a British man at a reform temple in Texas last weekend.
The men were arrested in Birmingham in central England and in Manchester in northwestern England on Thursday morning by counterterrorism officers, Greater Manchester Police said in a tweet.
The men are being questioned in custody by Counter Terrorism Policing North West.

January 20th marks the 80th anniversary of the Nazi conference at a villa in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee, where senior Nazi officials gathered in 1942 to formulate a plan for the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question.”
The building, known as the Am Großen Wannsee villa, was built in 1915 by pharmaceutical manufacturer Ernst Marlier and purchased by industrialist Friedrich Minoux in 1921. In 1940, it was acquired by the Nazi regime to be used as a holiday destination for SS members.
The luxurious villa was inaugurated in the fall of 1941, with officials highlighting its spacious and heated rooms and halls, a music and billiard room, a balcony overlooking the Großer Wannsee lake, and food, wine, beer and tobacco products available in plenty.

Under the slogan “Netanyahu, you will never walk alone!,” Israeli right-wing news anchor Yinon Magal succeeded in raising 3,529,000 NIS within a week to fund Netanyahu’s legal campaign. It is unclear whether Netanyahu can legally benefit from such funds according to Israeli law but Magal insists that a way can be found to transfer the money to Netanyahu.
“I spoke with senior lawyers in the Knesset,” he said. “The law prevents a Knesset member from initiating a fundraising campaign but we didn’t ask Netanyahu, we just raised the money. In a blistering attack on the current Israeli government’s attempt to pass a draft bill which would include Chareidim, MK Galit Distal-Atbarian (Likud) addressed the chareidim in the Knesset and said that the entire right-wing stands behind them and not out of a sense of charity but because they are “the elite forces (Sayeret Matkal) of Jewish identity in this state.”
Atbarian’s implication was that there is no need to target only chareidim for draft as opposed to other minorities and they are already providing a critical function in maintaining the Jewish identity of the state of Israel.

Economists expected 220,000 Americans to file for unemployment benefits last week
The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits unexpectedly climbed to the highest level since mid-October as an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases driven by the highly contagious omicron variant threatened to undermine the economy's recovery.
Figures released Thursday by the Labor Department show that applications for the week ended Jan. 15 jumped to 286,000 from a revised 231,000 a week earlier, sharply missing the 220,000 forecast by Refinitiv analysts.
Continuing claims, or the number of Americans who are consecutively receiving unemployment aid, rose to 1.635 million, an increase of 84,000 from the week's previous level.

Baltimore, MD - Jan.19, 2022 - I am so grateful. 27 years ago today, I donated a kidney to my big sister Sara who was really ill and needed a kidney in the worst way.
My entire family tested to see if any of us were a potential match and I matched all six tests perfectly. As I like to say, they were the only tests I ever passed in my life .
At that time, kidney donations were rare. There wasn’t a lot of information to go on or people to talk to about the procedure and how it would affect your life. But there was no hesitation. I have the best big sister and I would do anything for her as she would do anything for me.
It wasn’t easy but we are both so blessed. It would have been wonderful if there had been an organization to help us through this, but t...

The potential for snow prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for central and northern Maryland, including Baltimore County.
Forecasters say the precipitation will begin as rain then transition to snow during the Thursday morning commute.
Up to 2 inches of snow could fall, according to the advisory. Locally, some areas may see totals around 3 inches.
The winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, for these jurisdictions: Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties.
Drivers should anticipate slippery roads and drive more slowly and cautiously than usual.
