Several studies have shown that adopting routines can make you more productive. Routine is a hallmark of efficiency and can also help harness your creativity. Many successfully creative people swear by the routines they formed: author Stephen King famously sits down at the same time every morning, which he believes allows his writing to “kick on.”  Routine is a hallmark of many big thinkers: Geniuses like Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein liked to wear the same thing every day in order to not expend mental energy on wardrobe decisions. Perhaps that is why Yaakov wanted to finally settle into a routine.  Vayeishev Yaakov b’eretz m’gurei aviv, Yaakov settled in his father’s homeland.  Rashi qu...

The Michigan chapter of the Anti-Defamation League is accusing a Birmingham, Michigan politician of sending an email containing anti-Semitic tropes, the Detroit Jewish News reported. In a message emailed to Birmingham residents before the November 2 election, Commissioner Clinton Baller accused another city commissioner, Brad Host, of being a “marionette of the cabal.” According to David Bloom, who ran for the Birmingham Commission, it also singled out Jewish families, claiming they influenced the election with their political donations. “He said that two families pumped this money into my campaign and into Andrew Haig’s campaign,” Bloom told the Jewish News. “He said that they were buying the ponies and we were going to be doing their b...

A new study conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that drinking sugary beverages or being even mildly sleep-deprived could significantly increase a person’s risk of developing a serious case of the coronavirus and being hospitalized. The study, which was released by the CDC earlier this month, investigated close to 500 confirmed COVID cases among US military personnel from March 2020 to March 2021, isolating possible confounding variables to compare cases which required hospitalization with those that did not. A total of 93 hospitalizations for COVID-19 among Air Force personnel were matched up with 372 cases among Air Force service members which did not require hospitalization. Cases were matched based on geography, with researchers using l...
'Our president said they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon,' US Gen. Kenneth McKenzie says A top United States military general claimed on Wednesday that Iran will have the ability to build a nuclear weapon in the near future, adding that the US is ready with other options to prevent the country from doing so if diplomacy fails.  “Our president said they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon,” Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, commander of US Central Command told TIME Magazine. “The diplomats are in the lead on this, but Central Command always has a variety of plans that we could execute, if directed.” McKenzie’s comments are the clearest notion of a military option, while other US officials have recently spoken of “other o...
Following statements by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef against Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana's proposed kashrut reforms, Ombudsman of the Israeli Judiciary and former Supreme Court Justice Uri Shoham called on Minister Kahana to summon Rabbi Yosef for a reprimand and to even consider removing him from his position as a halakhic judge. In his remarks, he attacked the participation of halakhic judges in a recent conference against the reform of the kashrut system and wrote that "things should be clarified and the judges should be instructed not to take part in any conference, meeting or assembly, which raise issues of political controversy." "This is especially so when there is a fear that at the end of that conference a notice will be published bearing the names and ti...

Baltimore, MD – Nov. 25, 2021 -   The 19th of Kislev (Nov. 23) was the anniversary of the release of Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the first Chabad Rebbe (also known as the “Alter Rebbe” or the “Baal Hatanya”) who was released from prison in 1798. He was imprisoned due to libelous information supplied to the czarist government by opponents of the fledgling Chassidic movement. According to Chassidic tradition, the Rebbe’s imprisonment was the earthly reflection of a heavenly complaint that was lodged against him and the Chassidic cause which he was promoting, and his liberation symbolized a heavenly green light for the continued promulgation of Chassidus. As customary, the Baltimore community held a public event allowing all to participate...

The announcement follows Rabbi Kanievsky's meeting with three senior Israeli doctors who are continuously working to manage the coronavirus pandemic in Israel. The meeting, held in Rabbi Kanievsky's home, was attended by Professor Ran Balicer, who heads the Israel Shield staff of experts and the Clalit Research Institute; coronavirus czar Professor Salman Zarka; and Rabbi Kanievsky's personal doctor, Dr. Meshulam Hart. These doctors requested Rabbi Kanievsky's opinion on what the Torah demands w...
A high-ranking Israeli official has told i24news that the United States will be opening a consulate to deal with Palestinian affairs “soon,” Asharq Al-Awsat reports. According to the report, the Biden administration has already informed Israel of its intentions and plans to move ahead unilaterally if it does not obtain a response from Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s government, which is no longer seen as under immediate threat of dissolving due to internal strife, now that the budget has passed. Former U.S. President Donald Trump closed the consulate in 2019 after recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the U.S. embassy to the city, merging its services with the consulate.   The report added that the official Israeli source ...
In my opinion, the roof of the Binyanei HaUma Convention Center in Jerusalem nearly blew off last night from the incredible energy generated inside. The occasion was a women's event I was privileged to host as part of Tzama, an annual Chasidic music festival. Yuval Dayan chose to sing "Vezkeini Legadel" (May I merit to raise [wise children]), from the prayer said over the lighting of the Shabbat candles. "I thought about the millions of women who always whisper these words, but perhaps the time has also come to sing them loudly together.," Yuval said, and 1,500 women and girls in the audience sang/prayed with her that they would have the privilege of raising children who would light up the world.Singer Nechami Ruben is a mother of three who lost her husband Yehuda in the Meron tragedy...
